I think there's a strong chance that Joshua's humility, which definitely comes across as a fine virtue of his, would also be tinged with embarrassment for the questioner...

I remember Wlad being asked a similar question, regarding Joe Louis, and Wlad just politely closed the interviewer's line of inquiry down. I think the modern-day champions' high regard for such greats as Louis and Ali is not purely out of some superficial respect for their elders and the dead, as some kind of good PR exercise. It's rooted in their understanding of what these guys were capable of doing.

This is why heavyweights of different eras are harder to hypothetically match up than the other divisions that have weight limits. Heavyweights seem to put on around 14 lbs for peak fighting weight every ten years or so. Imagine a 189 lb Rocky Marciano in all his ferocity unleashed onto a lightweight ?? That's the disadvantage that Rocky, himself, would hold against your Klitschkos,Lewis' and Bowes etc. Anthony Joshua and Lennox Lewis,to name two,have/had skills and athleticism along with their size unlike Jess Willard and Nicolai Valuev.

In consequence H2H takes a bit of a backseat when it comes to the sequence of all time great lists in the heavyweight division.

I didn't state of even imply that.

No - but, they were highly skilled practitioners with their being plenty of evidence, actually proving their capabilities.

That's your opinion and that's fine but, you're wrong to make an assumption, such as you have, about 'guys like me'. I hold a different opinion because I look at the evidence.

So skill set in your opinion isn't important? Joshua doesn't have a great skill set, He's just a big strong kid, beating up on smaller unskilled heavy's . It's master class vs amateur class. It's not about Heavy's in the pass being Supermen but they were all around better fighters. Why? Because they lived in the sport, they started early usually in their very early teens. (Not Football rejects, who got in the sport late). Hard sparring was a must in the pass before everyone was concerned about the damage the sport caused. (rightfully so) Fighters were much more instinctive. Why? No big secret the daily sparring. The fighters today fight like robots compared to fighters in the pass. To me, It seems I can actually see them THINKING about what they should do. In the pass it was instinctive. A reflex of yrs of hard sparring. Fighters in the pass didn't THINK about throwing the right hand over the dropped left jab,it just happened. A millisecond of timing makes a helleva big difference in the fight game. The sport of boxing isn't greco roman wrestling where weight can be a huge difference. Any man that's over 210-220 lbs and 6' tall has the ability to defeat a larger man if the skills set are on different planets. While I wouldn't favor a Marciano or Dempsey over the big heavy's today, because of the size, and the way they fought. Others, like Ali,Holmes,Tyson,Foreman, and many others would destroy a Joshua, or Wilder. A master class vs a Novice class scenario. Note using B.Foster as a example is apples to oranges. He was defeated by two of the best heavy's in history, not by a heavy who was completely spent in five rds, and had to depend on getting his 2nd wind to defeat a fighter well past his prime.

    There's evidence in abundance.

The skills gap between Ali and Joshua is a very wide one and can be seen clearly on film.

The difference in speed, reflexes and all-round agility between Ali and Joshua is very wide and can be seen clearly on film.

The difference between Ali's and Joshua's conditioning, geared towards 15 rounds of high-tempo boxing is a very wide one and can be seen clearly on film and in their respective records.

Joshua, right now, wouldn't be able to beat Foreman, let alone Ali.

Your idea of skill and evidence must differ greatly from mine and 85% of the rest of those voting, in the poll.

becasue they didnt bulk up unnecessarily, meaning that they could fight 15 rounds. Add 30 lbs to 6 foot 6 inches ernie terrell and he'd be stuck in 6 round contests.

Not caught up on my opinion and my comprehension is just fine thank you for asking. just giving you a different opinion, you haven't wrote anything to make me consider otherwise. You say Joshua has great skill, but what are you basing that on? That "GREAT" competition he's fought? And again instead of giving a reason for your opinion based on something concrete, you go the insult route. And dude your 22yrs old. Obviously theirs no way you could've watched enough fights to make a really informed opinion anyway. So go back to that age group that you can fool with the nonsense.

The BEST Ali according to YOU,was averaging 205 pounds ( i ALREADY posted his fight weights re...t..ard.) Now you want us to believe a sub 210 pounder on occasion who came in at below 215 pounds will out point joshua who is a bigger version of Foreman with actual refined skills right maybe even knock him out?? HaHA ? :pipi

Listen dopey, you can take ALL your nostalgic b.s and INFLATE facts all you like the end result is this....A 6'6 MONSTER who is ALSO a former a former triathlon athlete is somehow going to lose to ANYONE who doesnt punch hard and doesnt even weigh 220 pounds( when Ali weighted this much he wouldnt REMOTLEY be considered a fast HW of something we havent seen before, bc then hes actually a normal HW standard ) defeats Joshua but then you watch fights where Ali struggles with 190 pounders /gets dropped by 180 pounders and gets questionable wins at times in BOTH eras to guys who wouldnt last 4 rnds with joshua himself ?

Well you my friend are an imbecile if you really think he defeats a SHW like Joshua who has the reach/style and the weight advantage by 40 pounds lo walk right through Ali,well you are a buffoon to think otherwise.

The only dope here is you...well and the lott ........you dont even know what REAL skills look like, and my guess is your watch has a number 13 on it,of a TWILIGHT hour a place you reside in most of the time...lol

Please read this definition then go look in the mirror bc this is YOU........:icon_pc:

Like Ali once said "wake up and apologize". You have to accept that.

These idiots dont even realise that LONGER rounds means LESS punches bc fighters PACE for those extra rnds.......they also would know the BIGGER fighter will ware down the smaller fighter from harder punches and leaning on them/forcing them to use more energy.

IF Foreman actually had ring IQ then ,he would have won soundly. But yea Ali's to open to hit and his style wont get him ppast 5 if Joshua jumps on him...5 being GENEROUS.

What idiots are boxing fans most of the time....lol Gotta laugh though!
