Tyson, I think. Though if intangibles came in to play where Tyson had to make a heart check, Ali would take it.
prime ali would not be killed by anyone, and while i admit a prime tyson was one of the most spectacular fighters of all time, prime ali had too much character and heart for tyson at any stage of his carreer. however i do believe 77 ali vs 96 tyson would be a pick'em fight as tytson still had some versatility in his armoury and ali was shot but still had buckets of guile and ring savvy
No, you are wrong. Shavers was not busy enough and allowed Ali to dictate the pace in the ring. He did clearly hurt Ali a couple of times but did not pursue the kayo as much as he should have. By ommitting to do this Shavers squandered his best and only chance to win the fight. He wasn't going to outpoint Ali in a distance fight. Also, Shavers was being pummelled during the last 30 seconds and was close to being kayoed himself. This kind of put an exclamation point on the outcome in favor of Ali.
There was no doubt that Ali should have hung 'em up before '77. Never mind comparing that version to his 1967 prime, just compare it to his 1974 self, three years prior. There's a world of difference even there. In spite of this though, the Muhammad of the Shavers fight was still strong as an ox,plus he'd retained all his guile and savvy,as we've already mentioned. So 1996 Tyson would have got more baffled and frustrated the longer the fight went.
