The future fight is the rematch, which he had to sign away for the first fight to take place. He can't promote (contractually ignore financially) the rematch, and neither can his promoter, so he is essentially tied to Matchroom for a fight. I've not seen any mandatory challenger split which is set at 22.5/77.5 [except for the IBF Champion Vs #3 which is 85/15], though even then the split is known before a challenger opts to take their mandatory. (Being a bit devil advocate here as I suspect you're right...though I do wonder if we've ever seen anyone threaten to test it and essentially get the contract ripped up as it's not worth the hassle)...
Pretty sure the Lawyers have a pretty tight contract but Ruiz does have a say. The rematch clause says he has to fight AJ next. It doesn't say when or where. He can hold out indefinitely or until AJ gets tired of waiting and decides to fight someone else, which then frees Ruiz up to fight anyone he wants.
im not claiming anything, im interpreting that clause. if you see it different, tell me which line doesnt fit the situation in question. this wont be argued in court on the grounds of the ali act, so it wont even come in to play, but it doesnt change the fact that if they wanted to, according to the language in that excerpt, they could.
Honestly the amount of hate for AJ on this forum has just made any form of discussion pointless... Like him or hate him the bottom line is Ruiz signed a contract with conditions in it and he needs to follow those conditions or be punished for it... He got given the golden ticket and won the jackpot, now he just needs to get over this hurdle and he becomes the man.. FFS he should be backing himself not sooking like a scared little boy...
I think one of the closest I can remember was the Rahman/Lewis rematch when Rahman wanted to take another fight before the rematch. So long ago I'd have to research.
I've already stated my position 3 times on here, you can accept it or not. It's ultimately conjecture on both of our sides as I don't believe any of us know the inner details of the contractual negotiations or their obligations pertaining to fulfilling that contract.
