Heavyweights of today get a hard time...but a cold analysis of the past offers interesting insight.

Thanks, I've never seen this fight.

And yes, the past is overrated.

Was at the fight, B. Thought Jones beat Clay to the punch, and landed enough flush lead rights to earn the nod.

So what? Ali beat more good/great Heavyweights than any other man in history.

James Tillis gave Tyson a good fight, Lewis was ko'd twice by lesser fighters. Would you have guessed Holyfield would be a legendary Heavyweight after a 190 lb Qawi fought him to a standstill?

In what way does picking one of a fighters worst performances and judging him on it provide a "cold analysis"?

    excatly

lewis looked like **** vs mercer, most thought he lost

mercer looked like **** vs marion wilson- most thought he lost

tubbs gave bowe a great fght, most thought tubbs won

lewis looked very ordinary against z mavorik (or whatever and whoever he was) but looked awesome vs ruddock

bert cooper quit on his stool in round 2 vs 40 year old george foreman in 1989
bert cooper goes to war vs mercer and and holyfield in his next few fights

not sure what the point of the thread starter is....:huh

Yes, let's take this fight, and disregard Ali's wins over the best fighters of his era, and judge him by it.

Depends what you mean by "good fight", in reality the green Tyson won 8 of 10 rounds & floored Tillis in the 4th...

The other two judges gave bull**** hometown scores for their boy Tillis, when they very generously gifted him 4 rounds.

The main thing is fighters arent immune to bad performances...greatness is achieved through consistency, longevity and the variety of styles you face.

Ali was determined enough and went on to face the best fighters of his time.

    B. Douglas of the Tyson fight for me what have beaten anything pre Liston (64) and Post Foreman (74)...but then Buster only had one great fight/ performance.....Ali had at least 10.

Having watched Ali, and the majority of his fights id put the following as great performances.

    Liston 1
    Liston 2
    F. Patterson 1
    C. Williams
    E. Terrel
    Z. Folley
    J. Frazier 1
    J. Ellis
    K. Norton 1
    K. Norton 2
    J. Frazier 2
    G. Foreman

In fact that is 12 performances where Ali was great.

Here, a more experienced Tyson truly dominates Tillis in a '87 exhibition fight:

Name me once where I have even mentioned Purrity's name.

I will paypal you a hundred USD if you can find me saying something in relation to Wlad and Purrty.

Also please explain what statements I have made that are hypocrytical, or just paste them.
