This is the only known Photo that shows Ali together with Liston (after their fights) https://imgur.com/a/p49tBXa Liston doesn't look resentful towards Ali. Photo shows prefight Ali vs Terrell.
Liston looks happy in fact. Probably a damn sight more happy than when he was champion, and felt like he had to perform for people, and his best was never good enough. Being champ wasn't any thing that Sonny expected it to be for the poor man. A bet a lot of people disappeared from his life when he lost the title, a lot of so called friends. But by the time of this fight, all that craps in the past. It would be Ali, who would soon be getting hit with the arrows of the press. The curse of the heavyweights.
I heard - I hope - that Liston and Ali were able to get along afterwards. They were part of an exclusive club and held a title many aspired to, but few achieved. And both suffered the slings and arrows of hatred for their perceived behavior ... I believe Patterson was one of the first people in Sonny's dressing room after the loss to Clay/Ali (either the first or second, not sure) and offered consolation, and Liston appreciated it
Ali raved about Liston in the first issue of World Boxing, December 1968, saying "Sonny can lick 'em all!" I think this was after the televised Henry Clark fight. Sonny was on quite a tear, though most of his opponents weren't much, in 1968 through the end of 1969 when Leotis Martin got him. 10-1 (9).
But I can read his expression and body language, he is for Ernie Terrell deep inside, remember the embarrassing losses to Muhammad Ali both times.
It would have been interesting if Muhammad Ali had not been banished in 1967, and some promoter arranged a third Ali vs Liston bout shortly after the Folley bout in March 1967, let's say May 1967. Ali fought often as champion.
