There are rumors Golovkin himself will be on hand in Astana sitting ringside to cheer on Akhmedov, Islam, Turarov and the other young Kazakh up and comers sharing the bill. If so that is an enormous display of dedication and willingness to give back to his community, when you consider that means a roundtrip flight halfway around the world just a week before he's stepping in the ring with Canelo.
If he isn't already on Gennady's radar, maybe a dominant and entertaining performance against Thomas will convince the superstar "hmm, maybe i should use my influence to lobby to find a spot for this kid on an upcoming televised undercard of mine..." Boom. Big break, just like that.
This is unlikely. Gennady doesn't like being associated with any other promotions and fighters, especially in Kazakhstan, and especially during his camp. If only EXPO insists that he is present, but I highly doubt that.
I heard it was in the 3rd 2016-02-06 81kg Joshua Buatsi ENG Ali Akhmedov KZK TKO 3 Any idea if it was it a legit TKO ie. KDs or badly hurt and unable to continue or was it one of those amateur stoppages? Even if it was the later Buatsi is a legit banger with power in both hands and those hard shots come thick and fast. Buatsi is a beast. I see great things ahead for him and Akhmedov looks promising from the little I've seen of him.
Yes, he lost by 3 round TKO. I don't know for a fact but they don't give technical knockouts for nothing. Buatsi will go further than Akhmedov, no doubt. Buatsi can win a title but I doubt Akhmedov can.
I shot the EUBC a message to see if Buatsi vs. Akhmedov was captured in video so we can see without resorting to speculation. ...and even if he did get sparked out by a clean punch from Buatsi, literally so what? He was 20 years old and the Ghanaian is a monster. Plenty of world champs have far more embarrassing stoppage losses haunting them from their amateur days.
