Depends when you start Lewis´ reign. After winning a belt or after winning the championship. If you take the championship I don´t think he has a claim.

Jeffries has defended his title successfully against two atgs and the best challengers available - but Johnson. Marciano defended his title successfully against three atgs and the best challengers available. They certainly are in the running.

Joe Louis title defences are often called "the bum of the month club" but that´s not because they were worse than contenders in other eras but because Louis was that good. Up to the war he fought the best available.

 

Vitaly, Holyfield and Tyson are for sure among Lewis' beaten opposition in title matches. And it trumps Walcott, Charles and Moore for me, all things considered. Not by much, but by enough.

I'm firmly going with Holyfield, I say his two wins against Tyson, win against Prime Bowe & win over a highly motivated Old Foreman are worth the 2nd most, in a H2H sense.
