good point :good i'm trying to think of any bangers other than benn than he took solid shots from though...
they were solid hitters to be sure. benn is the only monster he's been in with though. and in those fights, he took BOMBS while rarely being even stunned
Muhammad Ali had one of the greatest chins of all time, and arguably the greatest recovery powers ever seen in the Heavyweight division. For me though, guys like Chavez, Chuvalo, LaMotta, etc. all have slightly better claims than Ali for having the best chin of all time.
ali got up from one of the most viscious hooks frazier ever threw.... in 4 seconds. that alone ranks him as one of the best chins in history.
Out of curiosity, who would put Ali above Tyson in terms of "chin"? There is no correct answer but I enjoy examining the rational. I would have Ali above Tyson in terms of the somewhat intangible "power of recuperation", but I have Tyson above Ali for ability to take a punch/punches without giving-out.
Chavez probably beats Ali in terms of his ability to keep fighting through punishment without being jarred. Ali maybe has better one-punch resistance, but he would often have to cover up, clinch and rope-a-dope when in trouble whereas Chavez would just keep walking you down. Hagler, too.
Hopkins has a good chin, but his ability to survive is more to do with his ability to avoid getting caught flush and keep his chin down all the time
Because Joe Frazier was the Paulie Malinaggi of all the Heavyweights, and also did you see that bomb of a left!?!
ATG Chins: Ali - a Frazier Bomb Hagler Napoles - he got cut but never KOd Tons of Pre-War fighters had iron chins Greb and Gibbons being examples Monzon Ortiz B-Hop
good questions. i would put ali above for a few fights: shavers fight, frazier 3, and foreman fight. ali was well past it and they could barely faze him. only shavers could even hurt him at all and this was when earnie was arguably the hardest hitter of all time. i think tyson has a GREAT chin. but he was hurt by douglas at his best repeatedly (douglas was not a world class puncher) and knocked down (albeit not from a head shot) and beat up by holyfield in the first fight (that tyson was much closer to his prime than the ali of frazier 3 or shavers). Ali fought much better punchers and took their hits while staying on his feet. Tyson, as great as he was, was knocked down by Douglas, and rocked by Bruno, Holyfield, and Lewis who are not in Foreman, Frazier, Liston and Shaver's league
:goodgreat post. it was mentioned it the chavez-taylor fight that it was incredible how he would just keep his eyes open and walk through punches. I think chavez and hagler can provide competition for best chin of all time for sure
