After pummeling Kownacki I expect Demirezen's phone to ring non stop with fight offers. Even though he won convincingly he got hit more than a heavy bag by a guy who's not exactly slick . Either Demirezen has a rock jaw or Kownacki doesn't really hit that hard at all which I suspect is the case. I'd take Makhmudov to blast Demi out early along with several others based on that fight. Kownacki? He seems to be a nice fellow and I wish him all the best but he appears to have run out of runway. He was sooo easy to hit with right hands with his head constantly on line and dropping his jab to his waist after throwing it. If he continues against any fighters near the top 10 I see bad times coming. I was amazed at how often he hit Demi the first 3 rounds with basically zero effect.
Demirezen, who is very durable but limited, would make a good opponent for many of the better heavyweights. He's clearly not too dangerous (he hit Kownacki flush multiple times but didn't knock him down or seriously hurt him), but he's nearly impossible to knock out. Demirezen is very similar to Sinan Şamil Sam (may peace be upon him).
For Kownacki he should retire unless you like seeing guys get beat into slur speech and brain fog. Ali can take a few more slug fight before he calls it quit. These guys put on show by using their face to stop punches. Sad part is it’s Entertaining and people will pay to see two subpar boxer slug it out.
Kownacki basically said he wants to take one easy fight to go out on a win and then all it quits. He needs to get out of the sport ASAP, tho, because he takes way too much punishment and at this point he isn't going to make the money to justify it. Demerizen looks like a top 20 HW who would make for a decent gatekeeper challenge for someone like Jalolov. He's the perfect opponent because he isn't that dangerous but likely will give you some rounds, and stopping him would be impressive.
Tip of the cap to both boxers. Neither of them seemed to hit hard enough to really KO the other, but the lack of power was made up for with a relatively clinch-free fight. I can't recall many occasions where the referee had to step in and break them. Even if one of the fighters grabbed at some point, they both seemed to let go and continue fighting on their own. It was very refreshing. I hate it when fighters, particularly lighter weight fighters, who are supposedly "master boxers" ... throw a jab, a right hand, and then grab. Jab, right hand, left hook, grab. Jab, right hand, grab. Jab, jab, grab. Give me to guys who will just trade and don't even think about clinching any day of the week.
Kownacki stated he wants one more easy fight as a farewell to his fans. Ali should fight Dubois. The lower top ten in general should add him to his resume imo.
They weren't sub-par, they just didn't clinch. You're not supposed to clinch. But everyone gets used to boxers finishing every combination with a grab and hold, waiting for the ref to break them. Every fighter (no matter how slick they are) would get hit A LOT more if they weren't allowed to constantly grab every time someone starts throwing shots. We're so used to it (clinching), though, when we see two guys who don't grab fight each other, it looks peculiar. But a lot more punches certainly land when they don't clinch.
I remember when Wilder’s team was setting up for Kownacki showdown. Now we know why. He needs to retire.
I've long thought refs should penalize these fighters with excessive holding/clinching. I know it can be hard to tell at times, but they should still go through with it to discourage the overused practice or punch punch hold....repeat.
I agree. I think it was the second Maskaev-Rahman fight. I haven't watched it forever, though. But Maskaev was warned a few times during the first half of the fight for holding. And Maskaev and his team seemed worried they were going to lose points or get DQedd, so he stopped holding and just let his hands go. And he ended up stopping Rahman at the end.
Ali Demerizen seems like a rich man's Christian Hammer. He'd be a good, durable opponent for guys like Hrgovic, Dubois, Mahmoudov.
I am convinced that the winner (therefore Emirezen) will face Sanchez. Kownacki would do well to retire.
Sanchez is the type of fighter who Demirezen would have no chance against, it would result in a dull fight and a wide UD. I'd sooner see him against someone else, perhaps Makhmudov, Helenius, Wilder or Whyte.
