This. The round just had a few seconds to go, so Foreman wouldn't have gotten KO'd or even stopped in that round. Foreman had unearthly recuperative powers, but that does nothing for an exhausted, low-stamina guy who finds himself in round 9 in Zaire. Foreman might get himself together some in round 9, and not be so punch-drunk, but Ali would beat him to the punch continuously b4 being stopped on his feet.

Ali was toying with George by then so he probably would have been ko'd by Ali at his leisure

If Foreman had Frazier stamina he would kill Ali!

Yeah, it could have been bad for him in the longer run. It's often overlooked how much punishment he had already taken when the fight was stopped, another 2-3 rds and Foreman might never have been the same physically.

Foreman was too exhausted to stand a chance

He would get knocked down again and again. Though I am more curious about how it would play if Ali didn't duck him for the rematch.

George would have gone down again seconds after the ninth started. In an alternative scenario,I can see his corner preventing him from coming back out. Archie Moore, especially, would have realised that Muhammad would have dished out a beating.

I don`t it was the greatest performance, but Ali`s counters were quick and his glove control was good, his chin was amazing, Foreman was very reckless in that heat though.

To me it was one of the greatest in terms of ring adaptability and intelligence. Ali thought fast on his feet...for one thing, his decision to unload right off the bat in the first round was dead on and definitely had something to do with him winning the fight. Foreman obviously didn't expect that, and you can see Ali sitting into a couple of those lead rights. He demanded respect from the beginning, and to my eyes actually hurt (gasp!) the big man in those opening minutes. Foreman definitely looked like he got smacked hard in the face before the round was over.

Oh, and the last 30 seconds of Round 5; Ali laying on the ropes for most of the round, then BAM! launches an attack on Foreman, who almost seemed shocked anyone would have the nerve to come after him like that; at one point, he swung so hard, he missed and spun around and Ali promptly grabbed him in a quick headlock. At that point, you knew Muhammad was toying with the man and setting him up for what was going to happen - Foreman had no say in it that morning.

Plus he (GASP!) backed Foreman up.

After the 5th it was plain George was going to lose imo. The announcers sure thought so.

Foreman didn`t know how to pierce the high guard.
