Ali - Frazier II what's your scorecard?

Norton clearly won the 1st and imo the 3rd but the 2nd could've gone either way though I scored it for Ali by a couple of points. I also thought Young clearly won in an uneventful fight I admit though Young fought smart and forced Ali to lead and countered him well.

Maybe I wouldn't be surprised. Boxing has a lot of shady figures moving strings in the background.

 

I had it 6 to 5 one round even- Frazier!

7-5 Ali. One of the most boring big fights I've ever seen. Very much a 'spoiler' performance by Ali and it wasn't a strategy that sit well with anyone who likes good boxing (albeit it was 'smart' boxing) but I can't really see where Joe won this fight.

 

8-4 Ali. Easily. Have watched it 5 times in 6 months and have not once scored it differently.

It was spoiling, unfair tactics by Ali, but if the referee allows it, its fair game. The judge cannot, CANNOT, penalize the fighter for an infraction if the referee doesnt. If the fighter wins the round, but held to much, you can't give the other fighter the round to be spiteful. The referee sets the tone of the contest, the fighters fight inside that. Thats just the reality.

Knowing that, and conceding Ali's spoiler tactics, there is no way to score the fight for Frazier. He landed some hard shots, but not very many, and I thought his body work looked much weaker than it did in the other two fights, and didn't seem to be bothering Ali much. Ali landed many more, far cleaner punches.

This cannot be rewritten into a gift decision. Most ringside observers also felt Ali won.

 

Too bad Foreman was poisoned that night.

 

8 to 4 over 12 rds for Ali.... I'd have to do a review to give precise round scoring... Ali won easy in '74... A tactical, not thrilling rematch....

Was n't as exciting a fight for purists as bouts 1 & 3 were,but as you say,Ali certainly boxed smart in it. His speed really stood out in certain phases. No way Frazier won it.

 

8-4 Ali.

However, if i was the referee, then 2 points would've been deducted for the 147 leaning-clinches around Frazier's neck in 12 rounds...but still Ali would've won.

Spots of prime Ali flash through, and even against a past prime Frazier, this is the fight to watch if you want some snapshots of what they'd look like together prime for prime.

Call it nostalgia, and the fact that 67 Ali vs. 69 Frazier is the one time machine fight that I REALLY would like to see.

The fight did suck though. No question.
