Ali/Frazier II -Your Card

Ali-Frazier II just didn't have the "zip" that the FOTC had.....neither being champions at the time.

12 rd fight....Frazier hurt early.

Ali did a lot of "hugging" and Frazier just didn't "smoke" enough.

Ali by one or two rds is probably about right.

This fight was very close and could've been awarded to either fighter.

The fight was a draw: 114-114

Rounds 4 and 12 could be called even or could have gone for the other fighter than who I gave it to.

If this were a Championship 15 Round fight, then Frazier would have taken a decision over Ali. He was coming on strong and Ali was fading a bit.

 

I had it 115-113 Ali.

 

I had Frazier winning by a point or 2.

 

All Ali did was run and hold all night. Frazier put up the better effort, he just failed to seriously hurt Ali like he did in the first and third fights because of Ali's holding.

However, Ali did hurt Frazier in the second round.

 

I'm re-watching this fight to score it!

 

Haven't seen this fight for a while, but not only was it the holding but it was Ali pulling Frazier's head down a lot, which greatly diminished Frazier's inside punching ability.

Perez should have put an end to that bull**** immediately.

Even so, a viable case could be made that Frazier won or at least deserved a draw.

Of course, two straight Frazier wins would have meant (at the time) no need for a third fight between the two.

A Frazier win would also have ruined Ali's positioning as Foreman's opponent in the most lucrative fight that could be made at the time.

Better for boxing that Ali won, I guess.

Just re-watched the fight and scored it. And like my memory serves me Ali basically dominates the fight. He is just pecking and poking all over Joe and Joe barely does anything. Ali wins or ties every round up until round 6. Every close Joe round is a close round. Ali almost wins rounds based on just generalship! Frazier is a bit cleaner with the punching but he doesn't do frankly enough work and Ali hurts him just as much as Frazier hurts him while landing 3-4 times as much on him. Anybody who thought Frazier should've won is completely delusional and probably thought Joe won the first fight 11-4. If you think the fight was a draw then you probably scored the Thrilla a draw too. I agree Ali holds too much but this is on the ref. The ref also arguably saves Joe in the 2nd round from a knockdown. Overall the ref did a terrible job. But Ali clearly wins the fight. I actually think he wins the fight easily as definitely as Frazier did in the first fight (If not more). Funny enough, Larry Merchant a huge Frazier fan (If the same one) had Ali dominating through 10 rounds thinking he needed to get knocked out to lose... apparently he had Ali winning the 1st fight too but that had me rather confused. Maybe different guy. Bundini is just hilarious "Dance champ, dance, FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY! RALLY RALLY!" It's a UD folks, no controversy. If you think this one had controversy than so did the 1st one.

On a 1 point system. 8-3-1 Ali

Funny one of the judges had it 8-3 going into the last round. Think he scored the last for Frazier. It was a good round for Joe but like many rounds Ali just finished better. The thing about it was Joe has himself to blame. Besides being overly content with the clinch he didn't finish strong in very many rounds. That cost him in my book.

 

I must be delusional.

 

Re-watch the fight and score it honestly.

Otherwise, how does a man who lands 3 to 1 on the other hand lose a fight when he hurts the man just as many times as he got hurt. Ali definitely hurt Joe in round 2 and Joe I think caught and shook Ali at one stage. Ali arguably hurt him in round 9 I believe.

As for the fight, Ali is dancing beautifully and showing great ring generalship. A bit too much holding but can't hold it against him. Frazier does absolutely terrible in the first half of the fight. Frazier some rounds doesn't land much and when he does it isn't clean. Generally, Frazier is cleaner than Ali but he's hardly active while Ali is pecking all over him. Some rounds Ali is banging him with that right and connecting. The biggest thing is Ali is finishing strong to win rounds. So many rounds are close but Ali just finishes the last minute better. Joe just couldn't get off.

All there judges had Ali winning till the 11th. And of course all 3 judges had Ali winning till the end. 12 rounds Ali is all made for Joe because those body punches won't be as effective. If you think the fight could have gone to Joe or that it was a draw you either hate Ali or love Joe. I don't understand it though.

 

A little generous don't you think?:huh I had it a draw and coud fully understand someone scoring it for Ali but it's definetly closer than that. No way Ali won rounds 5. Rounds 4 and 11 could be scored either way in my opinion so that's fair.
