Ali was about as fast as heinz ketchup at this point, and my question is if coming in at 225 would give him more stamina and a little more speed. Frazier was also overweight and lacking in speed. This is a toss up imo which would depend on who was in better shape, but i would lean slightly towards ali because of his height and hittingand holding tactics.

It was a close fight. But one of those close ones in which there is only one clear winner, and that was Trevor.

Admirable, amazing effort by a sick man in Ali against decent competition, a future champion no less who had just been the first to take the champion the distance.

As for the thread, I think Nassau Ali would have had enough to outpoint the ghost of Frazier.

Ali really wanted his fourth title, he trained to do or die, and I guess the
fight is worth it not just because it was his last, but because, even though he was TOO OLD and TOO SICK, if one sees between the lines, the Greatest still showed flashes of the erstwhile brilliance and the boundless enthusiasm only a Quixote like him could muster.

He had nothing to prove yet tried doggedly against time, illness and a young, strong, difficult opponent.

    It was a respectable send-off.

I definitely go with the consensus here,in thanking God it never happened. Let's look at Ali and Frazier's respective opponents at this time. Trevor Berbick and Floyd Cummings. Berbick was definitely better than Cummings. A fourth fight between the pair would have been horrible. It would also have been close. It would have gone ten rounds, and Ali would have nicked it,by jabbing and holding enough to build up slightly more points than Frazier.

Yeah, I scored the berbick-Ali fight extremely close myself, 97-96 Ali.
makes me think that thi Ali would give a much better fight to holmes, who wouldn't bull Ali into the ropes and flail away with bodyshots. Ali effectivly used his jab an grab tactics to an ultimate split descision for Ali IMO. but I think it's good they didn't give him the SD. he probably wouldve fought after that.
I think if Ali didn't have parkinsons syndrome, he wouldve fought well into the 80s..
and a prime Ali would embaress berbick, no contest ;)
