Ali decision. Ali too stubborn and tough for Tyson to ko Ali and also Tyson too slow. Also Ali had lost that pop in his punches to ko Tyson. Only way this ends in a stoppage is Tyson gases out before final bell and simply can’t carry on.

Ali still out toughed most heavyweights even in that last hurrah of a fight,he can decision Mike,he knows his clinch game good,as long Ali can still perform good strats he's good.

The fight I watched this morning is a tragedy. Even moreso than the corpse that was allowed to fight Holmes.

That being said, that Tyson couldn't even stand properly and was trying to move literally to convince us, maybe himself, that this was a legit fight and that he had a chance of doing something. Inability to throw a decent jab and keep his legs under him and all attempts at hooking to the body or head could be seen a mile away. That Holmes version of Ali was beyond lethargic but still tough and could still muster the strength to throw a combination, even if the sting was gone.

The real question is why would anyone want to see such a fight? It dishonours the warrior code and no decent board would sanction such a fight - who cares how much money it generates.

My soul wept for Mike a little this morning - didn't expect to see cheeks in an interview followed by such a road kill performance. Well, at least he fought a fight with AIDS and won - the animal still breathes somewhat.

I would also bet on Ali. Of course, we're talking about 8 rounds of 2 minutes each there's no way today's Tyson could box for 10 or even 15 rounds of 3 minutes.

i don't even understand why people are asking questions like this.

I made a thread on prime Bredis vs prime Haye and it got a grand total of 2 replies. This would actually be a super interesting fight. But for some reason, people want to see a 58 year old man with shot knees and years of drug abuse vs a 38 year old with Parkinson's. Jesus Christ.

The Ali filled with potentially lethal thyroid medicine prescribed by a quack Nation of Islam physician that fought Holmes could barely hold his arms up. Tyson could at least do that.

Honestly I'm tired of all these troll threads that offer little to no substance just like all these silly Galento threads. The classic forum for me is special because you have the most knowledgeable boxing fans in the world and here we are wasting all that knowledge on tripe like this.

There was no warrior code involved here. This was about cash. Period. And Mike walked away with a whole bunch of it last night, I doubt he woke up with a tinge of regret this morning. People on the general board were bitching at his opponent for “beating up an old man.” I made the point that the old man was a willing participant in this circus and willingly climbed into the ring last night.

Does anyone really think that if someone had gotten a license for it in 1971 that a 58-year-old Joe Louis without a second thought wouldn’t have done something like this if he was guaranteed win or lose to walk out of the ring with enough money to get the IRS off his ass?

There's much better ways to make cash and yeah, if in 1971 Joe Louis is doing this, same thing.

There's a warrior code in boxing - it's not football where you get a club testimonial after 10 years. I'm happy he got paid, but didn't need to see him get paid doing that.

Is that code something that the professional participants ascribe to or is it something applied by fans?

I like oddball matches. I was going to start one but then thought better of it. I rather think of these guys at their best and not at their worst.

    A bit of both.

End of the day, Mike signed up for it and made money so yeah, good on him.

To a fan of his and boxing, one that values legit skill and celebrates the warriors, the skilled, the elite, that was an absolute joke.

If a legendary fighter needs to make money, maybe pay off a tax bill, or some other reason, I'd rather donate to a fund than watch the circus show.

What is there to celebrate as a fan when the sport is already in decline and then we get fed that?

    Agreed.

It’s been said before: legacy doesn’t pay the bills.

Like many, I find it sad that Mike had to come back for the $$$ but for mine, it doesn’t impugn his legacy.

Status Quo were accused by fans of “selling out” when they “leant” their music to advertising.

One of the band members duly noted that the fans don’t have to pay their (the band’s) bills - selling their music for advertising basically set them up for their post career lives.

Fans are often deluded as to what they think is right or wrong in respect of how their “idols” choose to live their REAL lives.

The main line I’d pull on Mike fighting at 58 yo would be in regards to the obvious risks to his health - and all things being equal, that fight shouldn’t have been sanctioned in the first place.
