i think young ali dec. jack unless hes careless then jack could ko him,but if a slightly aged ali could lose to frazier ,i think the flatfooted ali at zaire would get slaughterd by jack.jack looked bad against willard but the actual dempsey was so mean and accurate on the inside-with the power of a heavy and speed of a middleweight, unless ali could back peddle he,d git ko,d .The heart of an aged ali would just get him hurt against a young dempsey

I don't think Dempsey causes any problems to even the Ali that fought Holmes. I just don't rate that era very high H2H against more 'modern' fighters.

    Only my opinion though.

do u think ali would have altered his style knowing dempsey was more of a infighter than foreman -i think tunney and ali were really similar ali slightly taller and heavier and his jab was faster but half the time was only flicking, and tunneydidnt like to fight off the ropes as much

See, Ali has hit godlike status head to head when even the Ali from the Holmes fight would beat Dempsey. Ali hardly thown ten punchings a round in that fight. Dempsey would have DESTORY that Ali imo.

As for Zaire vs Toledo, I think Dempsey nabs it, Ali has lost his foot speed, and Dempsey still had his,

Ali could try to outsmart Dempsey, but I dont think the rope a dope trick would work. Dempsey would need to pace himself in the middle to later rounds like he did vs Gibbons imo for the points win on a fair score card.

Dempsey beats him up for a 15 round decision but a young Ali the roles are reversed

Ali of 1974 beat both Frazier and Foreman, relatively comfortably. Dempsey even in his prime almost got KO'd by Firpo, and he was KO'd in one round by Flynn not too long before winning the title. In 1919 he had never met anyone who were less than 3-4 leagues away from Zaire Ali.

    Ali takes this.

This is a bit too stupid for this board. Just because Ali rope-a-doped the perfect foil in Foreman in the perfect circumstances doesn't mean that was all he had by that time. He showed good movement against Frazier in the previous fight. Dempsey never beat anyone who even came close to coming to close to being as good as Ali in Zaire. Ali of 1974 beat Frazier and Foreman. What the ****!

A guy coming with his hands at his waist would get his faced jabbed off by Ali. Even Zaire Ali would bring things to the table that was completely new for Dempsey. The same is by no means true the other way around.

Quarry would look kickass against anyone Dempsey beat except for perhaps Sharkey, but that doesn't mean he looked kickass against Ali.

I see that two actually voted for Dempsey by KO. Incredible. Without a doubt the most overrated fighter ever.

Interesting that people who actually saw Demspey fight had him rated Number One Heavyweight up through 1950.

That would include Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, Gene Tunney, and Ezzard Charles, plus Marciano was coming on the scene too.

Ali was running his mouth a lot until he saw he had real problems on his hands in Ali-Frazier FOTC.

Dempsey would have given Ali hell too.

I'm mostly concerned with what fighters actually did, not what people said about them. Otherwise I would be convinced that Jeffries could bend steel and Dempsey breathed fire.

Dempsey was decisioned, KO'd and drew with fighters that doesn't belong in the same sentence as Frazier. And Ali of 1974 beat Frazier. A guy that actually protected his face when coming in. Can anyone here envision Frazier being tagged and almost KO'd by Firpo's wild swings - slow starter or no?

Frazier is taking knocks in H2h matchups for being KO'd in two by one of the most ferocious punchers ever. Dempsey lasted one round less against Fireman effing Flynn. He had two draws and two losses to Meehan, and drew twice with the great Al Norton.

What basis is there for saying that this man beats the guy who beat Frazier and Foreman plus just about everything out there? And that Dempsey would KO Ali?

Just to be clear. Dempsey beats this Ali, without a doubt.

I could have beaten the Ali of the Holmes fight.

Ali from Zaire was still a very good good Heavyweight, who still had his legs, he vouched to rope-a-dope because that was the most effective way of fighting big George. Ali knew this.

I don't consider Dempsey a great fighter in comparison to more modern Heavyweights, such as a Muhammad Ali.

I think it would be a one sided drubbing.
