Good call! I think chemistry is key with older fighters and Richardson seems to be able to work well with these vets and get the most out of them....judging by Nard and Shane of course. But yea....I think you might be on to something. But honestly...he didn't look that good against Ali and I think he was drained from trying to make the weight. He could have done much better...not taking anything away from Ali b/c he still would have given a tough fight.
His chin doesn't seem too bad to me.. maybe about average which ain't all that bad... and like someone already said, Nate has always had good pop behind that right hand of his so there's no shame in going down from a big shot from him.
Not exactly Amir Khan status, but I think it's going to be a liability once he gets in with a real banger. Nate had good power at 130, but at 135 his power seemed to be moderate at best. And from what I've gathered, Funeka has been down more than a few times against nondescript opposition.
Funeka came into the fight 149 lbs . . . I don't think it's a stretch to say he may have struggled to lose 16 lbs (he weighed in officially at 133 lbs)
Funeka should move up to 140 lbs, would take the strain off him and he'd probably have no trouble getting shots against the likes of Urango, and I think him vs. Bradley would be an intriguing fight. This fight against Nate has made people sit up and notice, he's crowd friendly (which means people won't mind booking him ) and his apparent vulnerabilities won't make him avoided by other fighters, though someone with his size and supposed power would usually be avoided like the plague.
To be fair both KDs were on punches to the ear/equilibrium area. So TECHNICALLY his jaw and PW-esque beard haven't been tested yet.
I don't think Campbell is this huge puncher. I think at 135 he's more of an accumulative guy...so that was quite alarming to me. Campbell threw about 1200 punches against Diaz and didn't really hurt him bad. But if you read the background on this guy he's been hurt before. Yakubu Amidu hurt him. Now he has a good KO record on paper, but he has a UK based trainer who says he is not a devastating puncher at all in sparring or on the pads. Just solid. His stature would suggest he might benefit from moving up to 140, he put on a lot of weight overnight.
True, they both to the temple area. Also, that was Funeka's first attempt at the Big Time. Early on he seemed very tense which can certainly cause issues with your punch resistance. A common thread among older fighters, no matter if it's Nate, Toney, Foreman v2 or Hopkins is they are SOOO damn relaxed. In the future I would expect Funeka to show a lot more in the chin departement simply from not being foreign to the big stage. Goldn
Good point. Katsidis went down twice (three times?) in the 1st round against Casamayor because it was pretty much his biggest fight ever. Much like Casa-Katsidis though, the crafty veteran waited and waited until the well got wet again with those haymakers. Very similar fights actually.
I'd say his chin is similar to Trinidad's. Not great, and he can be reached, but he will get back up. You can have an average chin as long as you have great recuperative powers. Feneka seems to recuperate very well.
