Became a big fan of this guy and i really liked his style... but that first robbery he lost to Guzman and then losing the rematch, and the weight issues took something out of him Is he retired or just taking a break? Havent heard anything.
Yeah I was wondering the same thing the other day. He has virtually no fanbase and he's hell for anyone below junior middleweight so I can't imagine it's easy for him to find decent fights. That being said I think he'd be a fascinating test for Rios.
yeah for sure... but something tells me he would struggle to make 135 again... i think he came in overweight against Campbell? If he moved to 140 I reckon he could stand a decent chance against Bradley, especially with all that reach
He got fined and suspended for testing positive for a diuretic following the rematch with Guzman. Haven't heard a thing about him since.
He was up there in age and with the long layoff the future doesn't look too bright for him if he does decide to come back.
It really sucked they took that W away from him against Guzman. Guzman has a chin and great defense, but Guzman didn't have it that night, and Funeka beat the sh!t out of him, only to get robbed. Then he lost the rematch where Guzman came into the fight a welterweight. Funeka also failed to make the weight legally though as he used a diuretic, if I recall correctly. The guy has a fun style, he is tall and awkward but always gives it his all, and can crack, as Juan Guzman found out. Kind of sucks that a guy like Funeka caught those tough decisions, against guys who came in over the 135 pound limit. He would have put some serious hands on Campbell if Campbell didn't refuse to make weight for the fight. He likely would have also put hands on Guzman again in the rematch had Guzman not weighed in at 144 for a lightweight fight. Yeah Funeka supposedly tested positive for a diuretic during that last Guzman fight, but prior to that the guy would be at 133.5 pounds two weeks out before the fight. It sucks when guys handicap themselves to do things the right way, the fair way, when the opponents have no intention of making the weight limit. Campbell weighed in at 137.5 or 138. While Funeka came in at 133.5 if I recall correctly. Give Funeka that same weight and he would have beaten Campbell cleanly. I don't respect Campbell of that ****, and I don't respect Guzman for that **** either.
