What do you think the average height of a heavyweight has been over the past ten years or so? I would say that anybody less than 6' 1'' would be a short heavyweight, and anybody over 6' 4'' would be a tall heavyweight.
Foreman beats Ali 7 times out of 10 ? Based on what evidence exactly ? Did you watch Foremans fight with Young ? It was like a re run, without the excuses of the heat ! Ali beats Foreman everytime 100% "He beats him in the jungle He beats him in the street He's got a better boxing brain and skills And he's got much faster feet, George is far too dumb And really rather slow His Gas tank quickly empties Whilst he's no good at avoiding blows. The Greatest cannot lose To a man, who's such a dummy Ali beats him everytime The man he named 'The Mummy' You got me so mad, im writing poetry ,LOL
Ah so your the Gordon someone warned me about earlier in the thread. I will look into this a bit more thoroughly and have already backtracked a bit since I actually have hardly seen any young Foreman fights (including Young). My point was really that I wouldn't fancy Ali against world class level super heavies but big George was quite rudimentary skill wise so for the moment I will take back the Foreman pick. (check my post3 edit) Cool poem
I am saying "no not really" to everything you said that I disagreed with. I think the super heavies are here to stay but I doubt they will get much bigger. Now days they only fight 12 rds so fighters can afford to bulk up without serious risk of being ko'd late because of exhaustion. Since the 1920s-1950s weight training knowledge has increased tenfold and fighters can spend more time periodizing training in order to become all around a better athlete. A fighter knows about 4 months in advance when they are going to fight so they have 16 weeks to increase strength, mass, speed, and endurance. All with at least 4 weeks for each. It is completely possible for a 200-210 lbr to pop up and dominate the division, it just depends on the fighter. Usyk will probably be a 220-230 lb heavyweight if he moves up. He's big for his division and has the frame of a big guy. However I doubt we will see another Joe Louis or Jack Dempsey giant slayer come up in the division. Fighters get more and more limited/basic as the decades progress. 50 years from now boxing will hardly have a fan base. The 20th century saw the best of the sport.
You can differentiate the posters who are lost vs the knowledgable just by the emphasis concerning size. Ali never had a tough fight against a big opponent. His speed was just that much more evident. Great smaller fighters have the better shot at doing well vs Ali as they could better match (or at least be less befuddled by) his speed.
That's crap and you know it. If Dempsey had problems with big fighters it would have been apparent. Smaller fighters lasted longer in the ring with Dempsey than bigger fighters and that's a fact.
I am responding to YOUR post...that boxers at 6'3 today arent considered small. You did say this right????? "6' 3'' and 78-80'' reach are not small dimensions for a heavyweight today. " what has that got to do with the past TEN years????smh well they are bigger today. Just look at the rankings ,you seldom see a top guy at under 6'3 or at 6'3. About 6'4 is average today and before you argue an inch well going from 6'2 to 6'4 is a big deal.the top guys are around 6'5 and when you compare 6'1 say to to 6'5 rather than 6'3 well, this is boxing and an inch is a mile in some cases.
You took it in Good spirits, thats good man. You're doing ok, keep posting. I think i gotta mention earlier, because i've been debating lately on Foreman being overrated. It's all good debate. Some very knowledgable people on here. Sure, you get the odd jerk, but none of us are perfect. Glad u like the poem, im not quite sure where that came from !!
Lewis inside uppercut when Ali tries to hold will be serious problems for him. He aint out jabbing lewis either if hes on his game. Ali was always stronger than his opponents, even tieing Foreman up at times with ease. Again Lewis will man handle him there. Bowe again, Ali never faced anyone that big with great skills and inside game. He really has a torrid time peak for peak with him. Then theres the klit bro's. These are to complete with huge size advantages to succumb to Ali imo. If there wasn't the size factor,id agree with you. Ali also imo loses 1 maybe 2 to Holyfield, who was more complete than all of them imo
With everything you have written here plus the rampant use of sophisticated PEDs today in the sport how can you still favour the fighters of the past in head to head match ups ? You must be letting the heart overrule the head here.
6 ft 4 plus now, anything south of that and they look small to the bigger guys like fury wilder joshua it aint crap. what weight was he ??
Yea about that around 6'4 /6'5 ....the other kid you arguing with is an imbecile,he still cant figure out why smaller guys lasted longer with Dempsey...its bc they actually moved around the ring and Dempsey was extremely poor at ring cutting.....lol
