No, I just realize that Holmes was hit with a more dangerous punch which Earnie himself says is the hardest he ever landed. Nobody is disputing who had the better chin.
When we come to the conclusion that fighter A is better than fighter B, it is all on the basis of watching footage. Is that definitive proof that it is a fact? Nope. You can't have scientific end all be all evidence in the sport of boxing.
I think Ali was a better actor when he was hurt, and a better clincher / cover up guy. The chins are about even. Maybe Holmes was a little harder to knock down due to better fundamentals.
Ali had a better chin in my opinion You also have to take into account that Ali fought Shavers at a time where probably should have already been retired. It was 2 whole years after the grueling fight in Zaire against Foreman. I believe Holmes was in his prime when he fought Earnie. Its a wonder that Ali the performance he did against Shavers. Not to mention the fact that Shavers probably put more heart effort and will into the Ali fight than any other fight of his career. But yea, back to the subject, I think Ali had the better chin.
It's funny you said that. I always thought Larry Holmes was an atheist, based on the comments he made in the Facing Ali book. For a non-believer to see heaven, then you KNOW that was some punch!!

I disagree. Ali said that was the hardest he had ever been hit and I believe him. Against Frazier he was even a bit more wobbly but that was a very very tiring fight at that point. So that Shavers hit was just as hard as the one against Holmes. Harder than what Ali took from Frazier, Lyle, Foreman, Liston, Norton etc.
