i went to a jimmy carter book signing today and picked up his new white house diary book. after i told the former prez what's up, i flipped through the book and found that he was fairly close with ali. at one point in the book, carter writes that ali was a special friend of his mother and she suggested ali offer his services to him. carter also wrote that as a famous black muslim, ali had access to almost any world leader and his only failure as a volunteer diplomat was that he was not permitted by the ayatollah khomeini to come to iran to discuss the release of our hostages.

this is what sets ali and louis apart from every other fighter in history imo. not only were they great fighters but they were so important outside of the ring.

also...he did fall in with the nation of islams own racism early on..having said that....its not hard to see why a black person in that time would be racist towards whites...it still didnt make it right however.

It really shows how stupid and shallow politicians and leaders are, and how lightly and superficially they take important matters of international diplomacy.

    lol

this really shows nothing but your own disillusion perception of life.

Because you as an armchair boxing fan knows more about politics and foreign relations than ex-presidents.

How was Muhammad Ali, the most famous person in the entire Earth, and a muslim, not the right person to represent America in situations like these?

Because he lost to Ken Norton, right?
