I think this size thing Heavyweights only is a problem...there are only a few well trained big guys around today...The Klitscko's and Valuev....and we all know Ali would have handled Valuev....The Klitschko'd could be a problem and guys like Sultan and Chagaev would make a decent fight....but a lot of these guys like Sam Peter and James Toney and Chambers and Areola are plain out FAT and could all lose a lot of weight 25-50 lbs...who else besides Lennox Lewis had a chance to beat Ali

Is this thread serious, or for comic relief? C'mon now, Chris Byrd more atheletically gifted than Ali?

Byrd was a better than decent heavyweight for his time that had very good upper body and head movement. However, he far from belongs in the same sentence as Ali when discussing anything related to boxing ability.

The contenders of Ali' second reign, Lyle, Shavers, Jimmy Young would give the heavyweights of today their toughest fights. Jimmy Young would out-box most, if not all of the current heavyweights over 12 rounds, while Shavers and Lyle would KO most of the currents heavyweights before the 12th round.

    Oy vey.

If one considers that Eddie Chambers- a reasonably skilled counterpuncher who generally gets by with a moderately impressive movement and a decent jab- can do enough damage to get into the Top 10, one can only imagine what Ali would do in this time period.

The mind doesn't just boggle, it reels drunkenly from the utter stupidity that some people display.

Chris Byrd used to fight at 140 lbs when he was 20 years old.

On what ****ing basis? Ali took shots from Foreman, Frazier, Liston, Lyle, Bonavena, Norton, Shavers, Moore, Patterson just to name a few. Some of the hardest hitters over on that list.

First of Ali Ali was 6' 3" with an 80" reach and huge legs. If he fought today he easily would have fought at 225 and lose nothing on speed. The opening statement to this thread is simply wrong. Look at the body types of Ali and Byrd, completely different ...

P4P, Ali would mop the floor with the Klitschkos. They should not be considered heavyweights. Being the greatest and all, Ali would definitely have the best chance of all other men his size to beat the Klits head to head, but I wouldn't bet on it. They are just too big to be in Ali's weight class.
