didn't watch it. everyone who thinks it was fix just remember liston could never win anyway - ali was coming into his peak at that time and was better. i can't see many beating a 60s peak version of ali. he was too fast.

Fair enough, if nothing else I felt that it was interesting to watch the opinions of two all time heavyweight greats comment on an up and coming competitor to their legacies..

The fight should've been declared a no contest due to the shoddy refereeing by Walcott. Ali was allowed to loom over Liston. Whether Sonny wanted to get up or not, we don't know, but I am of the impression that he could have.

To me the most convincing evidence that this was a dive was Ali's obvious anger at Liston for going down, which is why he shouted at him to get up. Generally boxers don't encourage their opponents to get up; it defeats the purpose of knocking them down. He talked about the power of the punch afterwards to preserve his reputation, that's all. The fight was obviously suspicious and should've been declared an NC.

It was dive, anyone denying it was is just crazy, or doing so to defend Ali from detractors

liston did eventually get up and they were fighting again when the fight was stopped. the fight shoulda continued - i think ali had his number after winning the first fight. if ali was nervous before the first he was super confident going into the rematch.

Great footage of the punch in when we were kings when Ali is speaking about the anchor punch. Shows the impact of the punch ripple up Alis right arm and across his chest. Also caught Liston off balance and on one foot. In Jose Tores book he said Liston was given smelling salts in the dressing room after the fight and told Torres he saw the punch coming but too late to prepare for it.
Personally i think the KD was legit and Liston never received a fair count, probably would have survived if he had but would have suffered a more prolonged beating
