tough fight for Ali, Marciano had 2 good hands, relentless and was deceptively fast in an exchange and a rytyhm breaker, Ali too would throw a lot of punches, try and move as much as he could but Marciano hurt him early and not so easy to hit without a counter I see Marciano getting very strong in the end and possibly hurt Ali somewhere in the 10th and keep up the pressure....still both men with pick it up a notch and it would boil down to a battle and the last 3 rds 13,14,15 would be the deciding rds Marciano could get him in the end or win the last 3 BIG for the UD but I lean toward a RSC in 15
That left, left, right combination would have spelled trouble for anyone it landed on. That was my point, not that Williams was a great fighter. BS. Sure they were tired (just like Walcott was in the 13th, and like Louis and Moore were when they got KO'd), but it's not the only time in their careers they were tired. It was, however, the only time they were KO'd. The punches Ali caught them with would get to most fighters. No ifs, no buts.
Foreman yes but he will outhustle Liston. Walcott is the definition of a journeyman, of course if you talk to Marciano fans then he is one of the best ever. Walcott, Moore and louis were old. Fact. Best days behind them. Period. Marciano even gave them the courtesy of getting knocked down by them. Marciano was great in his time against what was offered at that time and it certainly was not much in terms of fresh quality. Computer fight means jack and I would take Alis comments about power, ring generalship etc about the Rock with a grain of salt. There was no reason to insult the old man because he was not on the radar screen as a opponent. So , why bother. Marciano struggled with old man until his youth caught up with their age, not a big surprise. The problem is Ali ain't old, is a proven 15 round fighter with a granite chin, great fleet of foot, superior reflexes and speed, true heavyweight size, a dynamite jab and last but not least a will at least or even more iron then the Rocks. He also will not clown around or treat the fight like a gimme aka the best will come out. Result : Ali very comfortable UD BTW, Frazier comparison is meaningless, no forced Ali exile, no Joe Frazier champion and if they would have fought earlier Frazier would have been 0-3. On a sidenote, the posters who picked marciano by KO need to sue their brain for non support.
they never fought a power punching fighter with heart and stamina and a solid chin....Marciano would still be punching in the 7th round and Foreman would be winded early , lyle was big but did not hit with 2 hands like Marciano did, and Listen searching that heart.....Marciano(not a washed up Frazier) would stop them both
anyone that think it would be an easy night for Ali has to think if Ali ever fought a 2 fisted puncher like Marciano with stamina, heart, relentless killer instinct and power, you would not be able to run and win and you can not rope a dope Marciano....you would have to fight to win....Marciano would put the pressure on Ali like Frazier did in the first fight but Marciano also had a killer right hand and some short body shots to add.....This is a competitive fight
Than he sure gave Old Joe Louis a hard time about his style. Even calling Louis old slow suffling Joe Louis. Louis was not on the radar either, but why insult him??
Marciano was not black or a Uncle Tom. His whole Muslim/Nation agenda against other blacks who did not share the same view as him were all demonized, remember "whats my name ?" In Ali's eyes Louis was as much a Uncle Tom as Frazier. Ali was a great fighter but as a human being he is a POS.
Forman called Ali the greatest man to ever box, not the greatest fighter. He is a man of double standards, inspirational in many ways and a complete ******* in others. One of the reasons I started this thread is no way Marciano stops Ali in the manner of the computer fight, and I don't think anyone here has suggested he would. It is amazing how wrong this fight is.
I'd give the nod to Ali, probably because Marciano's skin was like tissue paper at his peak. That said, Marciano would make things interesting and give Ali problems. It's not Ali's size that would make the difference (Ali never imposed his size on anyone) but Ali's speed. I reckon for the first few rounds it would look a bit of a mismatch with Ali spearing Marciano with jabs, and Marciano (a slow starter in his championship years) looking foolish as he missed with wild shots. But, as always with Marciano, he'd start to make inroads at about the halfway point, once he had found his groove. If Ali felt the punches of a 45+ Marciano during filming for the bogus fight (and he did) he'd definitely be feeling them from a prime Rocky. Marciano could apply the same pressure Frazier did, but he was probably harder to hit cleanly and he punched equally well with both hands, unlike Frazier whose best punch by a mile was the left hook. I see Ali being caught on the ropes several times and Rocky scoring well in close. After round 10 the fight would be pretty close, with Ali shading it. After that, well who can say how the last five will go? Both men had the knack of getting stronger as the fight wore on, and both could pull a rabbit out of the hat when they needed to. Like I said, the biggest factor for me is Rocky's tendeny to cut, and against a sharp puncher like Ali that is usually a death knell. I'd go for Ali by stoppage due to cuts in around 12 or 13 rounds. It would be a hell of a fight though.
Ali had trouble with this relentless style fighter, look at Frazier, and Marciano was a great two fisted puncher who had too much stamina to be rope a doped. This would have been a great fight.
If you trade or stood in front of Rocky he would eventually get you ,Ali would not do that. Ali was bigger and more mobile than Walcott,Charles ,and Moore ,faster with his punches and had a better chin . he was also strong enough to tie up Rocky inside imo. His jab wins a decision or opens cuts to Rocky's face to force a tko late ,in a barnstormer
A very slight chance of a stoppage on cuts. No other type of TKO/KO happening here. Ali takes it by decision. Again, Ali by decision. But no taking rounds off ! If he does, he probably gets KOd.
I think Ali wins a decision, but Marciano would give him a run for his money. A prime Ali could not hold off Chavalo. Imo, the Rock hit much harder than Chavalo, has better work rate, more hand speed, better defense / countering ability, and cuts off the ring better. Ali should win a decision, but after it is over, he would know he was in a hard fight. If Ali was not in shape, Id pick Rocky but we have to assume both are in good shape. I also think there is a chance for Ali to win on swelling or cuts.
