Instead of using body shots to wear his opponents out, Ali's ability to soak up shots (in his later days) and insane reflexes causing his opponents to miss wore them out. His jab and follow-up combos to the head were all he needed; one of a kind.
He threw plenty of jabs to the body in the 60s. Slowed it down in the 70s though. Used it very effectively against Williams and Terrell if you want specific examples, particularly Terrell given his height advantage.
He's just using what works for him... and he exucuted it beautifully. Seeing him fight is like looking at art, damn poetic and beautiful!!
very true, ali never threw body shots. maybe the odd jab, but not proper body shots, wihch is why it was pathetic that anyone took the marciano video fight seriously when considering ali threw about 100 body shots before getting caught.
anyone ever see him throw a vicious uppercut? the odd little pot shot jab to the body as an amateur but no devastating body shots like frazier or tyson.
Because it's not his style. He used his jab to the body effectivly against Al "Blue" Lewis, Bugner, and Williams.
