You obviously take this Ali thing very much to heart.
Personally I dont give a flying **** if Barrack Obama has a picture of Jenna Jameson on his wall, makes no difference to my opinion.
I have postcards on Ali on one of my walls, doesn't mean **** really.

Hey, self-promotion is a monumental thing, dont underestimate what self-promotion is. I daresay many of the historically "great" people are remembered as such because of a great deal of clever self-promotion.

Yes, Ali was a follower, a follower of a living "prophet"/cult leader, the all-wise Elijah Muhammad, who taught all sorts of strange baloney from his headquarters in 20th century Chicago. Just another cult leader who claims to have learned a whole lot talking to God, and stresses that he's the only one around who really has spoken to God and knows the truth. Maybe I'm prejudiced against people who follow living people as holy prophets, I think it's a bit silly, even more silly than regular religion based on thousand-year old traditions.

But I dont feel strongly one way or the other about Ali, he was a great fighter and he had charisma. That's about it.
You clearly see more to him than that, and seem to have some sort of personal attachment and reverence for the man that goes beyond the way I feel about any celebrity since I've been a grown adult. So I'm not interested in arguing it.

I just think Ali was one of those personalities where truth and fiction blur, and consistency and logic dont really come into it. He was "larger-than-life". He's a great character.

 

The only way I can understand you calling him a follower is if your an athiest. Because if your not an Athiest, your reasoning is cringeworthy. Your calling him a follower, but every single person on the Earth who has a religion, is a follower, by your logic.

And what exactly is "fiction" about all the humanitarian deeds he has done? It is estimated he has helped provide more than 22 million meals for the hungry. Thats not including every homeless guy on the street he walks by and helps out.

Whats fiction about denying 80 million dollars that congress wanted to give him to compensate for the time he was out of work during the war.


Ali sold his name to a business man, and used the money to help out those in need. He was never in it for the money, of the "self-promotion". Those were catalysts used to get him in a position where he had the power help others out. How can he be only about self=promotion when he doesn't even own his own likelihood?


Thats fine, we don't have to talk argue about this anymore. It just startles me that people think like this. It's almost as if you hold him to some sort of super-human standard.
