actually Larry was underrated. Most fighters which are talked about as really great are overrated. The quiet ones are usually underrated. Sometimes people make the louder more outgoing guys greater. It adds to the legacy. Although Larry was not quiet.
Larry Holmes,,,,,,, Well, at least he's making an argument. Though most would not agree. I wish Larry would learn, his legend grows, when NOT talking about ALI.
I call them like I see them, or can back it up with facts... Larry Holmes does not have to prove anything to anybody,, he was Great. Muhammad Ali was The Greatest.
the prime Larry Holmes was no worse a fighter than Norton or Foreman or Frazier. He was that good. I give him a chance with Holmes. Larry had a great jab and there is a chance Ali would have to stand and fight Larry. Moving around on Larry might not work. Larry's jab might have neutralized that movement like Hearns jab neutralized Ray Leonard.
I agree with Larry. And I think he'd have kicked Ali's ass at any point that they fought, even prime against prime. He was nearly as quick, hit harder, took a punch as well, and had no fear of Ali. If Ken Norton could befuddled and get the best of Ali, I certainly believe Holmes would've owned him.
I admire Holmes as a fighter,he's a good candidate for being the second greatest heavyweight of my lifetime. But Larry has always had a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Muhammad Ali was a hell of an act to follow, and Holmes has never quite got over it. Well Joe Louis was also a big act to succeed. Ezzard Charles got over it,so should Larry. The chip on Larry's OTHER shoulder, for a long time, has been George Foreman. George generated a lot of popularity in his second career, and this gets up Larry's nose. Larry, you were a fine champion in your own right....GET OVER IT....! Rant over...!
If Larry had fought the Ali of Zaire,he'd have found that Muhammad punched much harder, and faster than a butterfly.
