I don't think the guys a genuine ***** either. I'm guessing he's probably a decent guy at heart who has shitty people skills and doesn't know how to be diplomatic in public. At his hall of fame induction, he was being a real dick when speaking about George Foreman though.. Some of the stuff he said was funny, but at other times, he was just being plain nasty. Foreman never did anything to Holmes to warrant the kind of public hatred that Larry projects towards him.

Yes George did,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he became loved by all.

The one problem Larry has never gotten over, George's success outside the ring.
But 'Big George' is a special once-in-a-lifetime guy.

Larry should take a Johnny Unitas pill.

Johnny on Joe Namath,,,,,,'I'm not going to fool myself, Joe has that something
'special'. I know it, because I watch him with the same eye's as everyone else.
He has that 'it', something that I will never have. The charisma and magic that
surrounds him is unbelievable, and I'm caught up in in too. But if I let it get to me,
it will consume me and in the end, I will be nothing more than a shell of a man.'

To be honest, I'm not sure what exactly Larry's whole agenda against Foreman is about.

I think it really pisses him off that
    A) Foreman ducked him
    B) finally agreed to fight him when they were 50, but then George pulled out when they found out they couldn't get the full purse they agreed upon
    C) People constantly harp on about how great of a person Foreman is based on what they see of him on TV, yet Larry seems to think Foreman is a ***** away from the press and cameras (I've heard the same)

I think had George fought him, Larry's agenda would not have been nearly as bad.

If Larry had fought George and beat him, Larry would have lost even more fans.

    Better left alone......

Joe Namath: Three winning seasons in 12 years. Possibly the first QB in history to be enshrined in Canton with a losing record.
Johnny Unitas: Three world championships in 17 years. 118-64-4 record. Finished his career with an often lamented one year stint at San Diego, but spent that year mentoring Dan Fouts, who went on to raise hell with Air Coryell.

    Here's the kicker:
Earl Morrall: Three world championship rings, one NFL championship ring, and MVP of the first team with a perfect season in history. In Super Bowl V, Morrall was the winning QB. I'd have to double check this, but I believe Earl was the very first backup QB in NFL history to come off the bench with his team behind in the championship game and successfully lead them from a deficit to the title. (I don't watch the gridiron anymore, haven't for years, but has any other backup QB come off the bench to lead his team from behind to win during the 45 year SB era?) Morrall sucked except for that Super Bowl win, his 4-1 playoff record as a starting QB, and his 63-37-3 regular season record as a starting QB, first man to play 20 seasons in the NFL (Blanda spent a decade in the AFL, so Earl is the first true 20 year man in the NFL), etc... Morrall belongs in Canton, and there are plenty of older fans in Miami, Baltimore, NY and Detroit who remember and agree. Namath did win the big one over Morrall, but never again once they shared the same AFC East division.

for the sake of argument let me go with you.. let's go a little further and compare all of larry's opponents against all of ali's opponents.. who beat the most quality ??
    definetely ali..
how about patterson or terrell or ellis or quarry or lyle ??? did he beat them convincgly..or have you trouble with those victories as well ???
and talking about ali being no match for vitali or tua ???????? if ali wins twice from frazier he sure ass hell will win also 2 out of 3 against tua..

I don't take thing's Larry says to heart. He really loves Ali, he's just bitter he wasn't as popular as Ali.

Best post of the thread, a great read :good

I remember reading Thomas Hausers book about Ali where he talks about Ali buying a young Holmes decent equipment to wear in the gym at Deer Lake because Holmes was penniless and Holmes was grateful to the extreme for it, he even went home to show his friends the black eye that the champ had given him, he was proud of his war wound.

Somewhere along the line, Larrys wires got crossed and he turned into a bitter old *******. Don't understand it but it shows a true weakness of character as far as I'm concerned, when someone shows you kindness and is a good man then why **** on them years later when they're down and unable to respond?

Sorry Larry, you were a great champion but you are also an absolute **** at times. Keep your mouth shut and you just might start to get some love but I guess that concept is lost on you.

Yet he also says how sad Ali's conditions are and what a great man he is. He also helps out Joe Frazier financially and gives a lot of money to charity. What happened was at the time he knew he was a nobody, and after 30 plus years of being compared to Ali, he's tired of it.

Holmes is a crazy old man. At this point he is just jealous that he'll always be known as that guy who fought the all-time greats.

He should be grateful to be even compared to a guy with a resume like Ali's, simple as that. Especially when that man helped him become what he is today.

When Tyson starts pissing on Holmes in the same way then I might just understand it, but he hasn't up to yet.

It's not him being compared in a positive way though. It's more of a "He's good...but he's no Ali" type thing that has been pissing him off since the late 70's.
