This has probably been posted before, but hey, here's 'the phantom punch' in HD slo-mo. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prxnGjKjxoo[/ame]
Difently conects and moves Liston's neck. If it were a dive Liston would not have gotten up and resumed fighting with Ali. Jersy Joe Walcot who was the refree stoped the fight after he was told that Liston did not beat the count by Nat Flaschier the founder and editor of the Ring Magizane.
It wasn't big, but caught him off guard due to angle and speed so could of knocked him down but I would of expected him to get up. He could of just given up though due to Ali beating him mentally prior to the fight and then that punch just being the icing on the cake.
Well he probably said ''**** it'' after being knocked down altough he could have beat the count most likely.
It actually appears to be a fake right uppercut, turning into a right hook. It's actually a sensational punch.
i can see it landing cleanly on the chin, its like the seth petruzelli v kimbo, fedor emelienanko v arvolski fights right on the button "Authentic" knockdown.
Ali is shifting his body weight from back to front well. That is not a slap, that is a decent punch. Liston probably could have taken it better a year before, but he was probably a little discouraged by this time, yet that punch was a good punch I think.
it looked legit up until liston starts rolling and supposedly had problems getting up. flash knockdown, i would believe. KTFO, a big no
If he wanted to take a dive: A) Why did he not fall down from a more "obvious" punch? It would be silly to create controversy if it was in fact a dive. B) Why did he get up and fight on?
Good punch. They should've allowed that fight to continue though. Liston beat the ref's count and both fighters were up and fighting eachother when the ref stopped the bout because he didn't beat the time keepers count.
