I think it was clean punch but doesnt look very hard unless Ali had amazing metaphysical powers unknown to science, I think Liston was just looking to lie down (for the Mob?) and get it over with rather than get humiliated all fight, he was a somewhat erratic individual after all

Your point stands but bad example, Tua was like 18, lighter than he is now, and totally green, he had fought noone in NZ pretty much then hes in with Savon?

He was not good at taking dive. It was a dive, as was first fight. In first, it was pressure from Nation of Islam members, who were around his corner. I twas reported, and some reporters wanted to make issue of it, but were held back by editors and publishers. Dick Young, Jimmy Cannon, were just two who kept writing about it.

That punch had somethng on it for sure. As another poster said, watch the right side of Liston's back right after the punch, it ripples from the concussive force of the punch. That was a Hell of a move by Ali, changing the punch midstream from what looked like an uppercut, then looping it over Liston's left. Serious skill there.

If anyone can answer this I will buy into the dive theory.

Always agreed that the punch atleast (not sure about the whole fight and build up) was 100 percent legit

The punch clearly landed and it did land on the button. Sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you it someone because other factors at the time make up for e.g. Liston not expecting it, him being it clean and on the button as well as the speed of the punch.

If Liston dived, why did he end up getting back to his feet to carry on fighting untill Jersey Joe was told he hadn't beat the count and the fight was stopped.

It looked genuine to me. It may not have looked that hard but he connected well and in just the right spot. Plus Liston got back up.

Very obviously a dive. Anyone who thinks the little performance during the trip back up was for real needs their head read.
