Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.

For part of it, I dont agree with the speed thing lol.

We had a LOT of great slow champions so to speak.

I believe it. You can turn out a very proficient fighter training in the gym but when the going gets tough and he wasn't delt out a heart as big as all outdoors he folds.

Here's a good book on the topic: "Talent is overrated". The bottom line is that hard work and dedication in any profession and athletic discipline is much more important than a vision or talent. A vision doesn't hurt, but can't replace a good work ethic.

Mayweather said a profound thing on 24/7

'We can train the same, we can hit the bag the same, we can hit the pads the same, we can shadowbox the same, we can jump rope the same. But it is how you react on the night.'

"Yep, Ali is a great man, no doubt about it- But his skills in the ring are overrated. Ali floats like a butterfly, Joe Frazier stings like a bee."

It's a good quote, but I bet you Archie Moore taught him that.

One of his many classic quotes. The bit about the will is especially profound.

I can buy into this one. My favorite Ali quote is most guys can get up to beat the count but choose not to.

Great quote, and i'm of the same line of thinking that the speed thing is a little off, but that's nitpicking, the general message in the quote is right on the money.

My fave is a Duran quote-

(something like this) 'I believe that in every profession, whether it be a doctor or a binman, God picks a few to be the best at what they do, not because they are his favourites, but so they can be examples to others, and I am one of the chosen ones'

If Pachilles comes in and tries to ruin this moment i will strike down upon him with the wrath of all of ESB Classic.

Its true, and hard work and will to win will trump talent anyday if the fighter doesnt have the will deep down. Thats why special fighters are few and far between because it takes the combination of both to make one.

    Absolutely.

For every top 10 heavyweight, there have been five who had the talent to be one, but never realised it.
