Yeah but what makes someone dedicated to that level, what gives them an insane work ethic? IMO you need to really want it to be able to put in that amount of training.

You are talking as though someone can just decide one day "Hey, I'm going to do 8 hours training a day for 5 years" and then do it easy as pie. It takes more than that. IMO if you don't have some very strong underlying drive, ambition, or passion for what you do, then you just aren't going to be able to consistently stay that dedicated.

Also it's a fact that some people mentally are quitters and some don't give up, they have to be beaten. Lots of ultra-skilled, very dedicated boxers who quit at key moments in their career. Can you train to avoid that? Boxing isn't the same as playing the piano, there is another guy trying his best to beat the crap out of you, your body gets battered and bruised, your brain befuddled.

Ali says this but also contradicts the whole quote by stating somewhere else, ''Fights are won in gyms, long before I dance under those bright lights'' or something like that.

So which is it, are they won in gyms or arnt they?

As Napoleon Hill stated, "The starting point of all achievement is DESIRE."

Natural ability, good training facilities, luck, they're all good.

But a man with a dream burning inside is like a raging volcano -an unstoppable force.

Desire brings focus and the will to do the work, take the pain, take up denial and persevere when literally thousands of others will simply shrug and walk away back into oblivion.

At the crossroads of life, desire is often the turning point. "Discipline is remembering what you want."

Glad you liked it. A quote worth repeating...and remembering.
