Just watched the opening rounds of the Ali v Mac Foster bout in Japan, its not as I remembered it.Ali takes the initiative right from the start.I can't remember when he made all the running like this.Perhaps my old memory has begun to fail me?

Huh, an odd Ali fight to choose to digest mcvey! One of his most obscure bouts that you don't hear much about... Although where it took place is extremely interesting in it's own right, what with Ali doing weird crossover stuff with Japan and their athletes in the mid 70's (Antonio Inoki)

Ali looked horrible in this very odd arrangement of a fight. Inoki damaged Ali's legs. A mostly boring affair.

Professional wrestler Bret Hart then an employee of Inoki's, claimed in his autobiography that "the Black Muslims " who were backing Ali made it clear that if Inoki laid a finger on their champ, they would kill him. That's why Inoki lay on his back for fifteen rounds, kicking Ali in the shins so as not to use his hands.

Ali was dumbfounded, and only threw six punches the entire fight!

Anyone who bet on Anoki or Ali to win lost. The fight was ruled a draw!

A real train wreck, I find myself laughing and embarrassed for boxing at the same time. The film clips are below.

If Inoki had stood upright Ali would have taken him out.Dundee suggested they call it a draw ,an aberration of an event.

Or Inoki could have grabbed Ali, and quickly made him submit. Dundee was not the referee.

I find it odd that Ali couldn't circle around and do something to a guy on his rear end most of the match.

What exactly could a boxer wearing gloves do to a wrestler lying on his back? The verdict was declared after Dundee suggested a draw to the announcer,it's in his autobiography. Its academic anyway, it was a farce.

What could he do? Ali kicked at Inoki.

Are you telling me Ali could circle around to his backside and kick him? Please. Ali looked terrible here, partly due to the way this " fight " played out, and partly due to his own lack of imagination.

The price he paid was damage to his legs.

I think that was a case of Ali probably trying to wake Bugner up .Joe at times looked way to relaxed.

    I'm responding to you saying.

"I find it odd that Ali couldn't circle around and do something to a guy on his rear end most of the match."
In essence nothing. WTF! ps The thread is about Ali v Foster?

What are you trying to argue about? McVey is saying that there wasnt more Ali could do to a wrestler on the ground while he’s wearing boxing gloves. Your response makes no sense, he never claims that, “Ali could circle around and kick him”. He points out that the flight was a farce to which you responded that Ali looked terrible?!

It is also well known that Ali believed that the fight was going to be a choreographed exhibition until arriving in Japan a week prior to the fight.

    this is false!

Ali changed the rules when he visited Inokis gym,and became nervous thinking it was just a wrestler! He saw how serious Inoki was taking it!

Anoki is very well trained in catch wrestling , the art of bone breaking and painful joint manipulation.

Ali changed the rules to Inoki only being allowed to kick and grab on the ground.

Ali also changed the rules of he grabbed the ropes he would be allowed up.

in short Ali didn't actually want to fight this guy!

Then maybe you shouldn't be giving an anylization of a WHAT IF Inoki stood up and breaking that match up down adding a Dundee sideline to it ?

As for your thread? Well I really don't think it's hard to figure out why Ali would be aggressive.

He outweighed Foster over 40 pounds to his 180 pounds.

    Maybe that's why? :duh
