Leon Spinks with 9 fights vs George Foreman...wonder what the result would be.

Ali wins again. I don“t think he would have used the rope a dope this time, he would have used something else and in my opinion Foreman was beaten before cause of his loss in the first fight mentally. No way he wins this one.

I've already posed the question as to why Ali would avoid Foreman when he found him easier to deal with then Frazier and Norton. He was ready, yet again ,to fight him in 77 until Jimmy Young laid down clues as to how the rematch would pan out.

I think Ali ducked the rematch and after Thrilla in Manilla I dont blame him 1 bit, a warrior can only take so much. I think Ali beats him anytime up until the Thilla but after that Foreman certainly has his chance to take Ali and even stop him, but then again Ali still may have outsmarted him and edged him out

The fact is, he did avoid it. He was the one taking those punches in Zaire, so probably didn't want to take them again, especially after Manila and maybe after the dodgy decisions vs Young and Norton. Foreman was his mandatory and a big, big money fight, whereas defences like Dunn couldn't even fill the arena and the Bugner fight had scores upon scores of empty seats. Ali promised multiple times he would sign for a Foreman fight and didn't.

Nothing wrong with that. The point is, Foreman, as well as being a huge money fight, was the mandatory contender, that's why the fight should have been agreed. The WBC were on Ali's back to fight him, he got around this by retiring about three times. Foreman even gatecrashed a press-conference to get to sign Ali to fight in November 76. Ali agreed, retired again, came back and announced in late 76/early 77 that he was fighting either Mike Schutte or Evangelista.

Well, Jimmy Young didn't spoil Ron Lyle's party by beating him. Ron received a title shot after this defeat. Foreman actually retired a few months after the Young fight, officially. Not that I'm blaming Ali for not offering a fight after this, of course, just before.

I respect your views, but do you not think Foreman was partly to blame for this ? Not fighting properly throughout 1975. I give him kudos though for picking Ron Lyle as his first opponent back.

Not really mate. Ali made just one mandatory defence of his crown out of 11 total defences, which is a complete joke, Foreman was clearly the odd man out here. He made up for his inactivity in 1975 with victories over Lyle and Frazier, I don't really see this as an issue anyway. His number one ranking + former champ + huge money spinner + beating two of the top five ranked fighters = deserved shot at title.

As I've already implied, the ball was in Big George's court in early 1975. After all there's no way The Greatest would of been afraid of signing the rematch up,because he had no hesitation at giving Joe Frazier and Ken Norton title fights, and in Ali's own words, both had given him hell over the course of two fights apiece. Foreman was easy for him in comparisson.

Frazier and Norton werent nearly as good as Foreman. Ali knew he got lucky in their first fight so why would he fight Foreman again

we're forgetting that george was a complete reck and went into deep depression, Ali beat him more mentally then physically an immediete rematch then foreman would've be beaten even worse or quicker, bit like pryor/arguello

Foreman would win a rematch.... He got schooled in the first fight and he wouldn't let that happen again. Ali fought a gr8 fight in the first fight, but took alot of punishment.... Foreman would probably KO him inside of 10 rounds.

It would take a much more refined fighter than Foreman to land clean enough in order to get Ali out of there. He was being schooled in the first fight, and those same right hand leads and jabs will be landing all day just like last time. As someone rightly pointed out, Foreman was shot mentally after the defeat in Zaire. You don't beat Ali unless you have confidence, and it was all but drained from Big George.

    Same result.
