Foster was born in either 1936, 1937 or '38 according to several different sources, while we all know Ali was born in 1942.... I hate that when a boxing mag can't get birthdates right.....:shock: MR.BILL
Ok, thanks for the info about the hook. I don't think Foster lands very many jabs, Ali slips them or rolls with almost all of them. He stands right in front of Foster and still Foster have a hard time landing clean shots, so I wouldn't really say he's open for the counter either. If Ali stood in front of Louis or Tyson like that he would of course be dumped on his ass, but he wouldn't do that.
I've already responded to that if you go back. But again, I don't claim this is a great win by Ali by any means. As you say he was far bigger and also younger, and Foster never accomplished anything at HW. But there have been talk on this forum about how Foster outjabbed Ali, and even "cut his face to shreds with his jab", and watching the fight it's easy to see this is not the case. Ali unnecissarily took a punch or two just because he had no respect for Foster, but he utterly controlled and dominated the fight. This was a mismatch and nothing else. That Ali was cut doesn't change this fact.
Ali only used 1972 as a stay busy type of year.... He wanted action...... Ali wasn't too concerned about quality or youthful opponets at the time, he just wanted activity..... Ali fought like six times in '72.... Three of his victims were "Foster, Patterson & Al Blue Lewis." I'd have look up the other three dudes..... Still, '72 was mostly about being visible in the ring.... Ali picked a fine time to screw off in early '73 upon facing Kenny Norton....... But, he did pay for it........ Cheers...... MR.BILL Note: I also recall Ali beating Big Mac Foster as well in '72..... Good action, but not great comp. at the time for Ali....
This fight just goes to show you jus because you are good at 175 or 180 doesnt mean you can move up and beat good "true" heavyweights. Which is why i still find it funny that most of you think Marciano could move up and beat guys like Riddick Bowe and Lennox Lewis.
You were the guy who said Foster was winning this fight weren't you? Show me where Ali and Foster fought as amateurs please. The best Foster managed was a Silver medal at the Pan American Games, in 1957 at MIDDLEWEIGHT ! Ali won 6 Kentucky Golden Gloves Titles,at LH. The International GG Heavy Title. Olympic Gold at LH. Please furnish details of Foster's fights witrh Ali as an Amateur. Ali had 127 Amateur bouts and lost 5.
Russell, it's apparent that you are not a fan of Ali. But do you have to resort to wild and baseless claims to put him down? Rather than hurting Ali, it really shows you in a poor light. Have you ever considered that?
This gripe / arguement is NOTHING compared to the hell me and a few others went through on the "Marciano-Norton" thread.............. CHRIST! If you claimed Rocco Marciano was beatable and that his division was riddled with old fighters who were either shot or slipping, the nut-huggers of Marciano were sure to skin you alive in a verbal sense........ I named 10 heavyweight champions from 1887 thru 2009 that I seriously felt could whip Marciano in a time machine, and the nut-huggers basically just scoffed at me..... So, for the hell of it, I managed to squeeze Marciano into my top-10, and I placed him at # 10..... Talk about WW3.......... Peace..... MR.BILL
