I've seen it said here and there that he didn't train 100% (in Facing Ali, for example) but is there any substance to it, or is it just loose talk like about so many other big fights? He did go 14 gruelling rounds in brutal conditions after all. He couldn't have managed that if he was very far from top shape, I'd say.
Frazier down big on all the scorecards at the time of stoppage. (I thought it was closer by Ali by 2 points.) referee: Carlos Padilla 60-66 | judge: Larry Nadayag 62-66 | judge: Alfredo Quiazon 62-67 ~ ~ WBC heavyweight title ~ ~ WBA World heavyweight title ~ Fight known as "The Thrilla in Manila" -- weigh-in was 5 days in advance of bout 1975 Fight of the Year - Ring Magazine
I had it even after 12, giving Ali the next two. I scored the 14th 10-8 and may have even scored the 13th the same, I can't remember, this was about 20 years ago. So, that's Ali 3 (or 4) ahead.
Cant belive all the close score cards on most people, having Ali ahead by a point or so. Frazier was pretty much behide on my card. Lost the early rounds, took the middle rounds, and Ali clobber Frazier and busted him up in the later rounds. rounds 12 and 13 were pretty bad for Joe imo.
Those biased *******s actually had it even in the "Thrilla in manilla" documentary. Seems like everyone's out to make Ali look like a fraud in that doc. even Larry Holmes says Ali is underrated. What's the point? Stupid doc, imo.
I think I had Ali up by one or two.. Ali winning the first five then frazier taking 6 through twelve. But Ali coming back in 13 and 14 with a 10 - 8 in 14
