He owned Stevenson, but I have my doubts about Igor, though Mitch Green said he was the toughest fighter he ever fought, even if the food and water was bad in Russia.

I have the tape of these exhibitions. Ali just played around like he always did. His exhibitions are pretty crappy to watch.

Can't make to much out these sparring/exhibition sessions.
Nobody is in there to get hurt.

Same thing with Muhammad Ali and Teofilo Stevenson.
Ali got in the ring with him, but it was completely staged.

Jimmy Clark in 1975. Michael Dokes in 1976.

    Jack Bodell too, in 1966.

    Next up,,,,,,Lyle Alzado

I just watched it again and frankly I dont know what the big deal is. It was a pretty shitty match even for an exhibition. Ali was fat and out of shape and spent most of the time covering up, moving back, and jabbing. Vysotsky was always coming in but 90 percent of his punches landed on the gloves and elbows. He wasnt very effective at all. Ali seemed to land his jab whenever he tried (and that wasnt very often) and on occasion snapped Vysotsky's head back with a weak jab that wouldnt have broken through a wet paper bag. Ali tells Cosell hes tired and out of shape but that he wasnt about to go into Russia and during the first time that a professional fighter had ever been allowed to appear in their rings beat up their top amateur. He stated that physically they were in shape etc but that in terms of experience they werent on the level of professional fighters. Neither fighter was giving his best (as you would expect from an exhibition). Not that big of a deal IMO.

Oh and for the record neither of them wore headgear...
