Ali vs Liston 2 something irks me.

I agree. I don't buy the KD either to be honest.

 

Stop being delusional...it wasn't brutal at all....that punch couldn't crush a grape.

I don't think Sonny entered the ring with the intention of taking a dive. I just think he wasn't really into boxing anymore and it didn't take much to convince him to stay down and be done with it.

 

Have you watched it in slow motion? Perfect punch against an older lazy Sonny. It ****ed him up

 

Exactly ! Ali couldn't KO Liston with a black jack, and Liston wallowing on the mat is the worst acting job in history

 

My own is view is Sonny wanted to be out of that ring as fast as possible and it had nothing to do with Ali or boxing. There was alot going on outside of boxing that contributed to this.
Ali was there to fight but he was spooked before the fight too. Rumors of gunman coming to revenge Malcom.
Sonny may not have been formally educated but he had common sense. They want to shoot Ali and im gonna be the closest one to him. The canvas looks like a safe place.
That was the 60s.

 

If he wasn’t into boxing why did he continue to fight for another 5 years with only his death retiring him?

 

Of course I have, it's irrelevant, even a slap would look devastating in slow motion.
Ali was many things, a big puncher he was not.

 

Yet, he stopped George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston twice, Oscar Bonavena, Jerry Quarry twice, Jimmy Ellis, Ron Lyle, Cleveland Williams, Floyd Patterson twice, Zora Folley, Karl Mildenberger, Archie Moore, and on and on.

On paper, he was the best puncher of his era.

 

He didn’t beat them with one or a few very hard punches. It was always him dominating someone with his speed skill and size and stopping them with accumulation of punches over rounds. Except for a 1 punch first round knockout against the man who up till he met Ali the first time was the baddest toughest most powerful monster on the planet. Sure the same Ali who needed multiple rounds and punches to stop greats like Brian London and Richard Dunn etc.

 

The Foreman, Liston, Bonavena, Lyle, and Folley fights all turned with a single hard shot.

Ali routinely took it easy on lower level guys, even carrying Buster Mathis and Ernie Terrell, or they'd have been added to his already amazing list of quality KOs.

Nobody stopped Foreman or Bonavena in 150 combined pro fights except Ali.

What's often forgotten is Ali-Frazier 2 was very nearly a repeat of Ali-Liston 2.

In the second round of the rematch with Joe, with 30 seconds remaining, Ali staggered Frazier with the same punch he floored Liston with in fight 2 of their fight.

As Ali was following up, Tony Perez says he thought he heard the bell, stopped Ali and told both fighters the round was over.

Ali later accused Perez of doing that intentionally, Perez sued, and they went to court. The judge watched the clip and threw out Perez's complaint.

 

Sure preceded by 1000 other ones. Everyone knows Ali’s only weakness he was not a power puncher.

This doesn't mean ****. He did not stop them cause he was a big puncher. Most of his KO's were the result of accumulation of punches, basically he was wearing down his opponents.

Foreman punched himself out and was completely out of gas.
Liston took a dive.
The Lyle fight was stopped prematurely, and Ali hit him with many punches.
Folley is a bum.
The Bonavena KO happened in the 15th round, when Bonavena took huge risks tryng to KO Ali, cause he was behind on points. And Bonavena was very tired. And even then, Bonavena got up after the initial knockdown. Ali had to hit him 2 times more.
