Ali vs Lyle was a weird fight, what's your opinion?

I haven't watched the whole fight in years. Was Lyle a little bit exhausted at that point?

 

The GOAT right?

 

Who did better against Ali, Lyle or Foreman? How about Mac Foster or Foreman? Bonavena? You know the answer, you’re already working out the gymnastics to avoid it in your head.

 

I assumed the only thing you guys watched was the 70s HW scene and the fab 4. For shame.

 

Ali claimed to hae used his new shield tactic or whatnot. Essentially let Lyle shoot himself out while using tight guard and superior defense. Pretty much what happened.

 

My own opinion also. So many people over the years have claimed that Ali was being beaten from pillar to post and outboxed by Lyle. As soon as Ali got serious the writing was on the wall. And to this day I still can't get why some would say that the fight was stopped prematurely - Lyle was all over the place and virtually defenceless.

Yes that right is brutal! Lyle definitely didn't want anymore of it after that.

 

The only thing keeping Lyle from being flat on his back was the ropes and sheer willpower. It was a very dangerous spot for a fighter to be in and I would've stopped it immediately if I was the trainer. Ali threw a somewhat lazy but stiff jab and Lyle's biggest mistake was blocking with both hands held high obscuring his own vision. Ali took advantage of this and the follow up right hand was much faster and more powerful, catching Lyle completely off guard and unable to brace himself.
