Ali was out for 3 years 7 months but he was 25 years old and 28 when he made his comeback, he picked up the pace fighting younger stronger fighters with Quarry, Bonavena and Frazier but hard to tell based off of the shot 33 year old Cleveland Williams and 36 year old Zora Foley fights, he looked great but the opposition was not as good. Bonavena was a tough battle for Ali and Oscars stamina failed him but he had success with the awkward angles and hit Ali often. For me I think the 67 Ali was lighter, faster but the FOTC Ali was stronger, more mature and ready. The younger version got hit to the body a lot by Chuvalo who was strong but limited Marciano far better than both Chuvalo and Bonavena so like I said Ali was right Rocky would be a tough fight for any version
The fact that Ali was lighter and faster in 67 and stonger in his comeback does not alter the fact that during his prime years he was inactive. Ali was 28 when he came back against Quarry ,not 25,and 29 when he put Frazier in the hospital for a week .NB Frazier was 29 when Foreman bitlzed him, and his fan boys state he was washed up. Oscar's stamina did not fail him, he just walked into a great left hook. Something that Frazier could not manage to deliver in their two fights. Ali looked horrible against Bonavena because he was ring rusty, its as plain as day light. The scores 12-2-1 10-3-1, 8-5-1.Pretty emphatic by any standards. N.B. Ali was the only man to ko Bonavena. Ali allowed Chuvalo freeshots to his midriff, its all on film. At 29 Ali took 15rds of Fraziersa left hook pounding on his midriff. At 32 Ali took all Foreman's thunderous shots to the body without wilting, Marciano's body punches aren't going to do any more to him. especially as he would be in his prime and not there on the ropes to be hit. I keep hearing a liturgy of Marciano's qualites as a reason for him to win this fight heart ,determination, stamina, chin. Ali has those squared. Ali fought appreciably bigger men than Marciano , who punched harder, and faster than Marciano and he knocked them out.
what the **** are you insinutating? That the 70s version was better? You are a ****ing troll... And no.. The 67 version was better in every department, he was stronger too. The 67 version wa snot the green cassius clay, the 66-67 version weighed even 214 pounds vs chuvalo and 212 vs williams and terrel his best fights.. No weight difference, the 67 version was much more aggresive, more explosive, he had more hitting power because the speed and he landed more combinations and better, he had a much better footwork. HE had fasteR hands, better move of head, he was much better, and why you keep talking about the fight vs bonavena? Ali gave him a complete beating? You are talking like if it was competitiive? Plus bonavena was 20 pounds bigger, tougher and stronger than marciano, and still a past prime version of ali gave him a boxing lesson .shut the ****.
and tyson was in his prime in 86-88 when he never was proved against evander, lewis etc.. bUT still THIS PERIOD WAS HIS PRIME. PRIME ALI WAS IN 64-67, IT WAS NOT HIS FAULT THAT HE DID NOT FACE THE BEST PRESSURE FIGHTERS OF THE HISTORY AT THAT TIME
:rofl:rofl i don´t think, HE WAS AT HIS BEST, AND YOU KNOW LIKE ME, ****ING TROLL HE WAS 100% DEVELOPED IN 1967 AND HE WAS STRONGER , MORE AGGRESSIVE,FASTER, MORE EXPLOSIVE AND BETTER IN EVERY DEPARTMENT IIN 1967 THAN HE WAS IN THE 70S SO IF FRAZIER SAID OR ALI SAID IT IS A FACT RIGHT? IT IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS ARGUMENT EVER
no, frazier would beat marciano because he is naturally 20 pounds bigger,FASTER, BETTER BODY PUNCHER, MORE SKILLED FIGHTER, BETTER PRESSURE FIGHTER, HE HAD AS MUCH STAMINA AND HEART, HE HAD BETTER MOVE OF HEAD AND HE HAD TH EEDGE IN STRENGTH PROBABLY BECAUSE THE NATURAL SIZE DIFFERENCE.( AND DON´T TELL ME NOW THE CLASSIC **** OF MARCIANO BEING A NATURAL 200 POUNDER BUT HE GOT DRAINED TO FIGHT AT 185... MARCIANO WAS A ****ING PORK ABOVE 190.. HE WAS IN SHAPE A 185 POUNDER, PERIOD) and saying that rocky had a better chin is a complete bul**** based in a myth and nothing more, the facts said that frazier had clearly the better chin. Frazier never got dropped by a guy under 200 pounds, marciano got knocked down by the 40 years old former mw and lhw archie moore, frazier took every single shot from bob foster and then smashed him in 2 rounds, archie lasted much longer with marciano. I cansee bonavena dropping marciano perfectly, and foreman would have raped marciano, i can´t see archie moore knocking down frazier. I see joe destroying him in 2 rounds
you are a complete ---hole and I am sure you are a cyber tough guy, dumb guy dumb mouth ...Bonavena banged Ali around until he ran out of steam, yes the same Bonavena who lost to Patterson and Jimmy Ellis....what I was saying is Bonavena was no Marciano, only his height and awkwardness but did not have his chin, stamina, or power but because you are a ******ed alien you will lose the privilege of me taking your to your Special needs self I guarantee you are punk because of your punk mouth and attitude when someone does not agree with your limited mind, I know you dont disrespect people in person like you do over the internet because you would have stepped on your own tail by now ******
you are a ****ing ******ed troll, insinutating that ali 70s was nearly in his peak shape, or insinutating that bonavena gave ali a competitive fight.. Or using past prime version of a fighter to make a point against him, just an example using the foreman vs qawi fight to argue against george in a fantasy match vs marciano prime vs prime. You are a stupid punk troll. And not bonavena just did not have advantage in height over marciano, he was faster with hands and feet ,stronger, 20 pounds heavier, he had longer reach . and was not charlie golman who said that bonavena did hit harder than marciano?
I said he came back 28 when he beat Quarry, Bonavena showed how a 5'10 awkward guy could be trouble but Bonavena was already beaten by Ellis and other slick fighters and lost to Patterson as well while Marciano KO'd some of the slickest, I don't think you believe Bonavena was in Marciano's class as a puncher or relentless swarmer. Jimmy Ellis had Oscar on the floor 2X and Oscar lost to many of the boxers he fought, Ali did pretty good going 15 rounds and I do think his stamina was better than Oscar, Ali hit him with a pinpoint punch but Oscar was tired in the 15th Chuvalo was limited in his pace but he went to the body well as did Frazier, difference was Frazier had snap and power late in the fight and hurt Ali badly in the 11th and dropped him hard in the 15th capping a clear victory over Ali and I think both men were damaged from that fight and the following 2 so hard to really say who got it worse I respect your opinion although mine is the opposite, I do respect Ali,Marciano and Louis as my top 3 ATG heavyweights. I guess we just have to agree to disagree
Foley was born 3/27/31 the fight against Ali was 3/22/67 so Foley was 5 days short of his 36th Birthday but besides Foley had already been stopped by Doug Jones, Alejandro Lavorante and Sonny Liston among others and somewhat past it. I am not saying Foley was a bad fighter at 36 just that the era was weak and there was an even larger gap in age with Ali and his opponents up until 67 then Marciano and his opponents especially if we guess Liston's age
Of course it isnt. I will flip the question round and ask you what styles you think troubled him the most and why?
we can say what styles troubled him more in specific moments of his career... We can say that the pressure fighters troubled his static 70s version... I can´t say it about his very best version because he was a different animal and he never faced this type of guys in 64-67. So it is all speculation not based on facts
That myth needs to be put to rest. Ali lost those 4 years because of his mouth, not his beliefs. Tens of thousands of men were declared Conscientious Objectors. Ali would have been too, if had stated he did not believe in war and let it go at that.
Ali aligned himself with a criminal organization Black Muslims (drug dealers who sold them to their own people) and was told not to fight in the war and they got his mind and his pockets (shook him down) You can glorify it and make him a hero but a lot of people went to prison for the same thing. Ali was a victim of the Black Muslims and their hate propaganda. They murdered there own kind in the streets of Newark NJ but would not fight for their country for religious reasons B.S. There are rules of the land and in the USA fighting in a war is a duty of a citizen I am not sure how it works in Britain but if the queen says squat you will squat or be flogged I as a sport fan was happy to see him get back in action but it could have been much worse for him.
