both very overated in terms of greatness, but ali definately better resume. Roy wasted his peak and could have gone down as one of greates ever but getting destroyed by tarver (who at time was atually older than him) makes me think he took way to many easy paydays.
He was quite clearly past his prime, and even beat him in their first fight while weight drained and gassed. Get a clue.
around 32 years. it's just not one of the things you hear said about probably ( defineatly ) the most famous sportsman of all time.
A lot of boxing elitists here think it's cool to hate on Ali because of how incredibly popular he is with the general public. Elitism nearly always breeds distaste for the 'mainstream' opinion, and some discredit him just because it gives them that kind of elevated air. The ironic thing is that all they accomplish by doing this is to underrate the man in just as extreme a fashion as the people who overrate him in the general public.
That's the primary reason he's called overrated sometimes. He's not the greatest boxer of all time, though he is the greatest Heavyweight. I've seen P4P lists where he's not top 10(quite a few in fact in the Classic Forum), even though he ranks at #5 on my list.
