Like boxing the amount of people allowing their kids to participate is dramatically increasing and football will have a lot less talent in 10 years. Wish they never took the championship rounds away would love to see 15 rounds!

He didn't, but did Rocky Marciano or Ingemar Johansen, come back to be a contender in the 70s?

Let alone lift the lineal title?

That should tell you that Foreman was in a category by himself!

Marciano was no longer with us by 1970.

True foreman was special. But to me still speaks volume of the competition let alone the train wreck that it’s become now.

Also Marciano feared becoming like Joe Luis and fighting to long. Wish Ali took that route and Holyfield.

People can talk about the 'state' of the division today and generally I'll let them believe whatever 'truth' they want, it's their truth and not mine.

What I can infer myself is that there is a reason the heavyweights fight more like chess players these days, multiple reasons. They are generally a lot heavier, meaning their conditioning and stamina isn't on the same level as those that came before.

But there is another reason that constantly gets overlooked and for me to put my understanding of it into words isn't quite as easy as I hoped, but here goes. One perfectly landed punch will change the complete course of a fight and that is truer a truer statement than it ever has been. If anyone wants to disagree, go watch how many times Frazier hits Ali cleanly in FOTC and tell me that if Wlad, Lewis or Joshua landed that many cleans shots on Ali's button that he'd still be standing after 12 rounds.

I'm not even saying that they would land half as many clean shits, but to deny the fact that Ali would be able to take that and come out the other end... and still being able to take enough rounds to win a fight seems ludicrous... To myself.

I'll reiterate that Wlad, Lewis and Joshua are not Frazier and quite frankly don't fight anything like him, but those writing off any of their chances in the blink of an eye are blinded by what they grew up watching.

I'm taking Joshua off the table for now his career has yet to fully pan out.

I think Lewis 'could' beat him. Out of all those big heavyweights Lennox had the most agility, fluidity and all around game to go with that size. Lewis can control distance and use timing to catch Ali. Maybe Ali is still too fast getting in and out but it's worth seeing him try.

Vitali too slow and uncoordinated. He is easy to hit. Can't really hurt Ali enough to change the fact that his ears are getting boxed off.

Wlad is too robotic. Can't adjust or even keep pace with the Wilo the Wisp. Ali was the quickest heavyweight in history both hand and feet and he had plenty of size to go with that speed. Ali knocks out Wlad mid rounds.

Eh...his speed and coordination were and are uncommon for a man his size. Fighting Ali was like trying to stomp out a bushfire. The Super Sized heavyweights tend to be slower, less coordinated and tire more easily. Yes they look ok when the guy across the ring is just as slow.

Wladimir was very fast and Lewis and him had very good coordination and were huge punchers.

Both had chin problems but I don’t know how much of an issue that would be against Ali.

Ali liked to box more on the outside I don’t know how effective that would be against guys as tall and Good as they were.

I'm curious at this notion that Wladimir would be too robotic or would be at a stylistic disadvantage compared to Lewis. His handspeed seems pretty impressive and he seemed to thrive against smaller, boxer types. This was a type of fighter he generally did well against and lack of speed never prevented him from catching smaller guys.
