Just wondering how you would rate both ali and tyson out of ten in the following categories (when in their prime):

    Power: Ali 7, Tyson 9.5
    Speed: Ali 10, Tyson 9
    Heart: Ali 10, Tyson 8
    Chin: Ali 10, Tyson 8.5
    Boxing: Ali 10, Tyson 9
    Intimidation: Ali 9, Tyson 10
    Stamina: Ali 9, Tyson 7

I find it hard to rate Ali under 10 in most of the categories!

    Can you not count :huh

Adding up your scores you gave ali 66 and tyson 58 not 58-58 :patsch

Well I can't really give them a scores. But if it was a real fight I would have to put my money on Tyson. He's fast+powerful.....he's just a freakin tank lol

Ali's chin only a 9? I know he got put down by Frazier and Cooper, which were fantastic shots, but he also went in against some of the hardest punchers of all time, Foreman, Shavers and Liston.

I also think Tyson had more heart than a 5 as you suggest, when we are considering each boxer in their prime.

    sorry my bad

ali had a good chin but not worth a ten IMO if it is in their prime so IMO (before exile for me) he didnt have the solid chin as he did when he got older

also what did tyson do to show above average heart

Yeah when he went in against Foreman and Shavers he was past his best, but a chin does not get better over age, surely? If anything it would deteriate.

Winning a world title shows a fighter has a more than average heart, plus he fought Berbick whilst having gonorrhea, which also shows plenty of heart :yep

    By saying Ali and Tyson, I guess you mean went they where at their best, the pre-70's for Ali ( Liston 35-1, Liston II 35-2, Patterson 43-3, Chuvalo 34-11-2, Cooper 33-11, London 35-13, Mildenberger 49-2-3, C. Williams 65-5-1, Terrell 38-4, and Folley 74-7-4) and late-80's Tyson ( Berbick 31-4-1, B.Smith 19-5, Thomas 29-1-1, Tucker 35-0, Biggs 15-0, Holmes 48-2, Tubbs 24-1, M. Spinks 31-0, Bruno 32-2 and C. Williams 22-2).

    Ok,
    Power: Ali 7, Tyson 10
    Speed: Ali 10, Tyson 10
Heart: Ali 10, Tyson 8 ( because he held alot)
    Chin: Ali 10, Tyson 8
    Boxing: Ali 10, Tyson 7
Intimdation: Ali 10 ( because of his image outside of the ring), Tyson 10
Stamina: Ali 10 (15 round history), Tyson 8
    "Balance": Ali 10, Tyson 8
"Level of Competition": Ali 8, Tyson 5
"Success Outside of Ring: Ali 8, Tyson 5

    Ali 93, Tyson 79 (8-1-1 out of 10)

Ali would be a 10 for success outside of the ring, he is after all the most well known boxer of all time and generally regarded as being in the top 2 fighters of all time. If that doesn't warrant a 10 then I don't know what does

I think Ali at worst ties Tyson in the "intimidation factor", and could be a point higher if you will.

Tyson's intimidated the hell out of some opponents (Smith, Spinks, Bruno, Seldon, etc), probably more so than Ali ever did, but when that didn't work, his confidence seemed to fade..... watch the staredown of Holyfield-Tyson II or the Lewis fight.

Now Ali may not have intimidated several of his foes (most notably Frazier & Bonavena), but he was always super confident and it wasn't just an act, he really was that way. He freaked Liston and Foreman out, no small feat for sure.

Tyson may have scared more opponents, but when it came to ring presence and intimidate intimidating fighters, Ali had no equal.

I think prime for prime, Tyson wins it. Equally as fast, a harder puncher, and the Tyson that fought Spinks isnt intimidated by anyone, not even the wall he was putting his hand through before the fight.

I think you make a good point, but I would still give "Intimidation" to Tyson. My simple reason for doing this is that I think Tyson had the ability as perhaps no one else to make the opponent underperform due fear/intimidation. Douglas being the exception proving the rule, of course.

I don't agree with the cliché that Tyson would lose to anyone that stood up to him, far from it, but his opponents were very often put on the defensive before the bell even rang. And this was one of his most formidable weapons, but just one of them.

Tyson didnt have the same confidence in himself as he did before going to prison. He later admitted in an interview, that the last time he was a real fighter was in the Ruddock fights. His intimidation tactics got even worse post prison with all his ranting and evil looks, and that was purely from his lack of confidence in his abilities at that time.

good post, but i dont really see the point in adding my scores for each fighter to whats already been posted as i pretty much agree with the tally's anyway. i think Ali would have beat mike tho, in a great fight. i agree with what ive read about what Ali himself said about tyson (cant remember what books off the top of my head to be honest) and others who agreed he'd beat him. its true, Ali would have drove mike crazy with the **** he'd have said about him before (and during) the fight, to the point where mike wouldnt have been thinking beyond wanting to rip ali's head off. Ali would have dealt with mike in a similar way he did with liston, but probably tired him and then knocked him out like he did foreman but without the rope a dope. Ali by KO.
