Do the manner with which Folley's body lands, lays there, and gets up on both knockdowns make anyone else go .... :huh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFFDe9FQL3s
They are weird knockdowns. The fight looks like a negotiated deal. Ali gives Folley a shot. Folley gives the fans some moments. Folley goes down. I don't want to believe that. And I'm not saying I do. But the fight had a weird vibe.
Yeah, there was always some suspicions about a couple of Ali's early title defenses being "pre-arranged" somehow.
Folley was knocked down by Liston in almost the same manner as by Ali only in less rounds. He pitched face forward on the canvas when he went down from Liston's punches.
Watching this "best of Ali".....you could see where Frazier would have moved right on in and started smoking. I remember watching this fight on home TV....there was something a little "strange" about the build-up & fight.
Eh, the first one I think Foley wasn't hurt too badly, he was just surprised by the speed and sharpness of Ali's counter. He took a little time on the canvas to get himself back together, shake it off and come back. (The weirdest thing about the first KD is the way Foley suddenly does a push up getting up... maybe he really was out of it for a second and snapped back to himself). Second one seems perfectly clean to me, twas a right on the chin shot that spun his head around and separated his mind from his body. Clinical KO.
Theres no doubt these punches were landing. Its the how he reacts and falls down. At 5:36, he has already fallen down and is on the floor face down. But you see him then drop his head and hand several moments after hitting the cavas. Maybe its looking to much into it. But it looks unnatural, and who have you seen get knocked down so there arm is in a position to push themselves off the ground and stay that way for several seconds?
i think its more Alis speed and precision knocks people down before theyr actually hurt by knocking them off balance so quick
I didn't see the fight on tape. I did however see photos of Zora Folley, after being nailed by Sonny Liston, pitching face forward to the canvas; similar to his knockdowns by Ali. I remember watching the Ali fight back in March of 1967 and noticing the similarity of the knockdowns of the two fights. I would like to see the Liston-Folley fight on tape but I don't think that one exists. I have seen other people ask about a recording of this fight. The pictures I saw of it I believe were in an old "Ring " magazine.
