Ali (much like SRR) never lose (or very seldom) a hypothetical H2H.

BUT if you had to dethrone him, what boxer presents the best stylistic chance of upsetting him? What trainer would you pair with a fighter, and what fight plan would you think would need to be implemented to topple him.

Ali at his very best, who and how?

I would say Joe Louis and Lennox lewis are the two guys that would give Ali hell in a hypothetical fight. Lewis' range and skill would make it hard for Ali to setup anything, and I can picture Joe louis countering Alis jab and keeping him on the defensive.

Agree one hundred percent. These are the two most likely guys who may pull it off on any given night.

Tyson along with the fighters mentioned above. Holmes might have done it as well.

Its literally impossible BC he's that far advanced that its illogical to assume he would lose, I don't even think he's ever been hit ?

You couldn't even see his punches , he threw like 20 in .0112 seconds...how about that?

Come to think of it, you might have to chop both his arms off just to get a fair fight with anyone in history...and guess what?

    He still wins !

    :worship2: ALI

Great to see an Ali thread .. Not discussed enough because he was "the greatest" ..I don't like the Louis pick, I see Ali being to good of a mover, slippery, out boxing him .. and same with Lewis but more challenging.. Not much of a chance for Tyson, sorry (In Mem of Jake), but I see Ali's lead right disrupting Tyson's timing coming in pretty easily, not to mention his jab .. I like the Holmes pick giving him a chance to outbox Ali on pts ... Other than that, that's it for now I guess

I think a young Tyson could do it in a manner similar to how he beat Tucker, but maybe a faster paced fight. Sticking and moving was only a good way to survive against Tyson, but not beat him at his best as no one ever did. Chuvalo with his body attack gave Ali some trouble and Tyson could repeat what Chuvalo did, except with more speed, defense and power and a good enough chin. Picture Chuvalo with all of the attributes of Floyd Patterson as far as speed and defense is concerned with the proportionate punching power adjusted to his size.

Ali called Patterson the most skilled fighter he ever faced, Patterson's problem was that he didn't have the physicality to bother Ali, but Tyson would have 30 pounds of solid muscle on Patterson with similar skill and speed coupled with ATG punching power. That's why I see Tyson having a solid chance to do it.

I could see Tyson beating him as well, but don’t find it a likely outcome. I picture this more like Tyson vs Tillis with Ali being more effective at keeping the fight at a distance and clinching when Tyson tries to establish a mid range type of encounter. It would be dangerous but I see Ali taking a close decision

Wow those are fighting words on the classics forum....saying Tyson KO's Ali... a prime Ali in 5 rounds is like slapping someone's mama.

Some fighters get picked in fantasy fights, just because you have to jump one way or the other.

I doubt that Ken Norton was the only contender in heavyweight history, who could have acted as a stylistic foil for Ali.

There will be others, but we don't know who they are, and even if we had an idea, we would have to pick against them based on the evidence to hand.
