What D'amato noticed was that he got hit more than before his lay-off.

Frankham was actually a respectable boxer.
He fancied himself as a bit of an Ali, fought with his hands down by his side, not easy to hit.
He was good enough though to give Chris Finnegan two tough fights for the British Title over 15 rounds.

Yeah. Muhammad was always faking knockdowns in exhibitions.

I recall those Finnegan-Frankham bouts well. Very enjoyable to watch.

Did he have good light heavy speed also? Ali looked flabby and heavy in the pic and would have been quite slow in this exibition.

If I remember rightly he didn't have exceptional speed, he was just very elusive with the style if anything an exaggerated version of Ali swaying away from shots and the like. You couldn't really look good against him.
