i can´t see joe louis ever beating a peak ali... plus i think that ali would make him look a complete stupid... ali was too durable, too fast, too smart, too strong, too athletic... too much of everything for louis to handle. lennox lewis stylistically is one of the toughest matchs for ali, because ali did not have the hitting power enough to knock him out with the lucky punch, and beating lewis by decision was not easy, but i go with my man ali by sd. based on his speed, the much faster footwork of ali is the key factor here. i think that holyfield, holmes, frazier, marciano, vitali klitschko and prime tyson are not a day in the park for ali.
Louis best weight as per Louis was 202. Alis prime weight was something like 207 if you averAge out his weights from his first reign. So any weight difference was minor. both men were very strong hwts. Louis had the speed and skill to find Ali and it would have been a great fight. Pick here is Ali by decision but he would have been hurt like never before in this fight.
Again...as per Louis himself his best weight was 202. I've never heard Ali state his best prime weight. However if you average out all his title bouts from his first reign he comes in under 210. Heck if you want to play games let's say it 212. That's only 10 pounds which is nothing in the hwt division. louis had the speed and one punch ko power to better contend with Ali than anyone he ever fought. As an example Frazier only had that hook whereas Louis had not only crippling power in his left but the best straight right to follow that hook in boxing history. Plus he fought in combination...5-6 consecutive...better than all other champions in the hwt division. Again I'll give the fight to Ali but he would go through he'll to get that win. They don't come greater than Louis in terms of skill...the best.
I have to tell you that both the Klitschkos fought close to or unber 200lbs during their amateur careers. Are they both former cruisers? Its hard to find any fighter who could not have got their weight under 200lbs at some stage.
ali was clearly around 10- 12 pounds heavier than louis prime vs prime, louis weighed around 197 in some of his best fights, not just it but ali was much faster than louis, ali would make louis look a robot, louis had some decent speed in his combinations but his footwork was slow like pure ****, louis was easy to outbox, even a small guy like conn did it, and walcott did it easily, louis could be hurt by smaller men, prime 60s ali had the hitting power enough to knock him out, the chin of louis was not legendary, i would say that he was bit "chinny louis". THE STYLE OF JOE FRAZIER WAS BY FAR MUCH HARDER FOR ALI THAN THE STYLE OF LOUIS. doe snot matter if louis had better arsenal than frazier, the ultimate pressure and stamina of frazier did all the work, louis never would fight like that, frazier would be once and again on ali , pressuring and pressuring. frazier had the tools to annul the style of ali, louis not!!. frazier was hard like hell to outbox, louis not!! FRAZIER HAD A MUCH BETTER CHIN THAN LOUIS. ali was much faster, much tougher, bigger, probably physically stronger, heavier, he had a much better chin, he was the better fighter. SO, i don´t think that this fight would be that close that´s all, ali would beat louis clearly by late stoppage
ali was not a natural hw? jesus this guy is mentally ******ed... ali never trained weights and he weighed 210-212 pounds when he was 22-25, he was all skin, natural muscle and bone... 100% a natural hw. ali fought in the 175 class at amateur because he was a little boy at 18, ali developed his body very late, tyson fought in the 200 pounds limit at 18 just like tua... and they were heavier in their prime. roy jones fought at welter and mw at amateur and he was a super mw- lhw in his prime. foreman, lewis, bowe, wladimir... they fought in the super hw division in the amateurs because they were pretty big guys. at 18 i weighed 175 pounds, just like ali.. and now i am 29 and i am 204 natural pounds... my body is in perfect shape at 6´1 and 204 pounds... not too much muscle, zero fat...
the cruiser weight limit is 200 pounds... if you are 205 pounds you are a hw... your fantasy "215" limit is in your head.
For whatever it's worth, Frazier fondly pointed out during his interview with Jim Clash that there were only two participants of the five in the 1989 "Champions Forever" tribute who actually began their amateur careers as full fledged heavyweights. Holmes at LHW, Ali at LHW, and Norton at MW were not the ones. Foreman started out in amateur boxing as a big man, and Joe took up boxing originally because he weighed well over 240 pounds, and was having difficulty fitting his legs into his pants. [Even when Joe incredibly was able to train himself down to 199 pounds, his thighs still never measured less than 27 inches. He was about 230 for Jumbo Cummings, and would almost surely be competing around that weight in this era.] Not a tall man, but very thickly built, definitely a natural SHW.
Why would you even mention Fraziers last bout where he was totally shot and embarrassed himself against a nothing opponent? Fraziers best weight was 205 the night he beat Ali. At that weight at that prime time in his career he had the best balance of speed and ko power. A bigger Frazier would mean a less effective Frazier as a fighter.
Agree. Re Louis v Ali. I'd pick Ali - most likely comfy UD. As for answering this threads title. Many modern HWs could and would beat Ali - iow more fighters than just LL & K bros. For example if J Frazier & Norton gave Ali hell in 3 bouts, I think prime Holy & Tyson had a better than even chance to defeat Ali.
