just re-watched ali vs ellis today (twice) i am wandering now. witch was the best display of ali's superiority ?? for me it used to be ali vs williams. but the more i watch this fight (espescially round 3) the more i get second thoughts. this also was a great display of superiority from ali's side. allthough i think in the end ali didn't give it all. i think he hold back a bit.
not a huge ali fan to be honest but my favourite winning ali performance is the williams fight it is the one that sticks in my mind
Between those two, I'd say Ali-Williams. However, I think the Terrell fight could be considered an even greater display than that, as Terrell was a potentially more difficult opponent than Williams IMO.
I agree that the perfomance against Ellis was great. Even though Ellis was slightly past his best, I think it doesn't get due it should. It also showed that the guy Frazier beat in FOTC was still one hell of a fighter. More than anything, it speaks volume's of Ali's iron will that he could put in a perfomance like that just some four months after FOTC.
Out of the two mentioned,it's got to be the Williams fight. The Jimmy Ellis bout was Muhammad's 'recuperation' fight. Basically regrouping after the Frazier defeat.
