With the exception of the Cooper fight, I am not sure how significant Dundee was for Ali. He certainly wasn't responsible at all for the Foreman win. In fact, Ali basically ignored all of his advice during the fight. Ali pretty much trained himself for at least the last 10 years of his career. Only person that maybe could have helped him more was Eddie Futch.
Dundee let Ali be Ali. I would add the work Harry Wiley, the trainer of the great Sugar Ray Robinson, did for Ali when Angie was in Jimmy Ellis's corner due to contractual obligations was excellent. The shoulder rolls Ali did were beautiful to watch.
Angelo was the perfect trainer for Ali as he was the type to let Muhammad improvise and be himself. Eddie Futch was great but he and Ali would have been wrong for each other as he liked to be the boss which would clash with Muhammad's character.
Exactly. Ali did train with Archie Moore at the beginning of his professional career but parted ways quickly due to same reasons you stated. Archie wanted things done his way but that didn’t wash with Ali.
