All speculation that conspired throughout the years after the fight I guess... All kinds of tales are told as truisms and near fact.. IMO.. Sonny had something hanging over his head, that being the memory of the first bout. The invincability of Liston was crushed in the first fight. Did Sonny take a dive?? Did man land on the Moon??
Wills Ali seemed too contemplative and inward. Ali was just a madman in real life, totally confident and always shooting off the lip and shooting off so hard he seemed brash a lot of the time. Smith seemed too soft and rehearsed. Great Boxing though. It was Michael Mann stuffed this up, it seemed like a highlight reel, he didn't connect much together, it seemed hollow and didn't really capture the muhammad ali everyone knows. Too abstract James Toney as Frazier was a nice bonus for us boxing fans
Actually i thought the movie was briiliant, i liked that it didn't try to portray Ali as a saint as he def wasn't. As 4 million dollar baby being a better movie.............WTF
I love the bit where Ali comes storming out of the court room and walks thought the press mosh pit and he starts ranting on...... You want to put me in Jail...I ve been in jail 400 years I can do 400 more.. I aint draft dodging I aint burning no flag... You want me to die for you....you wont even support me here in America? Gold:good
Saw it some years ago on DVD...and from memory it was pretty damn good - certainly entertaining. After a while you nearly believe Smith is Ali, and that's no an easy role to play! Some of Ali's classics like - “I got nothing against no Viet Cong. No Vietnamese ever called me a n-i-g-g-e-r” - are delivered really well. The guy was equal parts crazy & genius, and at the same time, probably the greatest boxer that ever walked the planet!
This movie was rubbish. Very inaccurate and I thought Will's portrayal was garbage. Darius McCrary does a better job of Ali in "Don King: Only in America". Although it is only a small roll.
Will Smith is a ****en goose if ya ask me. Should be charged for over acting in every role he plays. Never saw the movie as I have a 3 hr tape that covers young cassius at the olympics then 1st pro fight & so on. Rather see the real man in action than a clown trying to be him.
Of course I have seen it.....its the best fight of all time in my mind And without watching both the real fight and the movie together....it looked very close to being right....even the way George got KO'ed in round 7
