In his defense, people tend to pick favorites for lots of reasons aside from pure skill or style of play. People tend to support their home cities, their home countries, people of their same gender (think of all the women who took up watching NASCAR when Dannica started racing), people who they think act like they do, etc. Race isn't really any different than any other aribitrary reason to like or dislike someone you've never met and don't know much about.

    Laila Ali ducked Anne Wolfe.

She was never a good fighter. She was just Ali's daughter.

She is hardly a go to source in boxing.

There are people considered "go to" sources in boxing who never put on a pair of gloves in their life. Just because you don't like Laila's choices in her boxing career and you don't like her very valid opinion doesn't mean she has no credibility. Anybody has credibility when they understand boxing. Given that she was a boxer, she has automatic credibility.

You don't get credibility just by being born nor do you get it by staying at the Holiday Inn.

    ???

No, but they get credibility in boxing from understanding boxing, which was the point of my post.

Yup, and all of those reasons irritate me. :good

I'm just wondering how he feels about a fighter he supports making a fool of himself on National Television. Had that been Marco Antonio Barrera up there contradicting himself and someone was asking me these same questions, I'd be liable to tell you how disgusted and embarrassed I was.

Fair enough. They may be reasons that irritate you, but they're also the most common reasons anybody becomes a fan of any person or team. To an extent, I suppose people are drawn to people who remind them of themselves, because that allows you to become that person when you see them in action. When you find that commonality, it stops being a stretch to fantasize about that being you knocking out the opponent because he looks like you, or acts like you, or listens to the same music, or is from the same hometown.

I get it. Like you, that's not how I choose my favorites, but I wouldn't say it bothers me, otherwise 95% of sports fans would bother me, lol.

All Floyd has is talk either from himself or other biased North American fans or fighters.
Let Floyd fight a boxer who is under the age of 35 or who he does not have a 12 pound advantage and maybe he won't slide any further in the history books. He has never fought a young champion in their prime in so long as has lost some of his speed and power and that is why he likes to fight older guys so he can look out boxing them which is what you are supposed to do if you are ranked #2 P4P. He needs to come up with something soon because he is losing worse without fighting. Floyd will never fight Manny or anyone nearly as dangerous. Get ready to watch him fight either a 35 year old + fighter or a younger fighter who lacks speed and KO power.

The majority of fans do seem to bother me quite a bit.

I've been to three fights live, and I honestly prefer to watch it at home. I'm not anti-social or boring, it's just when the fights are on I like to go crazy by myself and not have to listen to the drunken ramblings of the old man sitting next to me. Plus, it's a ***** pushing through all the bodies to get to your seat, and when I'm at home I can log on to ESB immediately after the fight and discuss what I've just seen.
